has any one who owns a zed tt ever removed the stock viscus cooling fan and fitted a radiator mounted electric fan.....?can these zeds be driven without a viscus water pump mounted cooling fan and just use the auxillery fan?

Featured Replies

do a search, this has been discussed a few times before. The story goes pretty much like everybody who fitted an electric fan put the viscous coupled one back on.

I dont see why you would want to remove the fan anyway?

Its obvious that no electric fan is ever going to be as powerful as the mechanical one, and if it was then it would drain more power through the alternator to drive it than the mechanical one uses anyway. Believe it or not, there is a reason nissan put it there in the first place ;)

Do a search on http://www.Twinturbo.net

There are alot of people who have done it and they say that its not better.

Keeping the car operational temp is easy and I hear it keeps it cooler for normal days. But on hot days when the fan really has to work hard to cool radiator the fan stuggles and people have has to stop and turn off the engine.

Also to get one that is powerful enough puts a strain on the altinator.

Also one mod that the US Zed'ers do is fit a european fan on as its larger than the US one.

Cheer's guys...the reason for this query is as follows ...My seal on my viscus fan has failed and the fan has siezed which is putting alot of stain on the belt and cutting the power output down considerably....i cant even rotate it by hand....hence either replacement or electric fan.

What is the point of the auxillery fan?

the auxiliary fan cuts in when it gets REALLY hot for some extra cooling. I think it also comes on at a lower temp if the a/c is on. Its only a small pathetic thing though so I wouldnt expect miracles.

You will probably be able to pick up a fan assembly cheaply from andyz.

where can i get a electric fan assembly from for a 300z and how much?

ask around. mine seazed too

I got one from from andy on here off a 300 being broken for 30 quid or so.

most people take of the fan cos of the weight ??? when i was doing belts i looked at the underpulley ... there is a huge weight on the back ... surely u could loose the weight thee if u know some 1 handy with a lathe ?

:)

Just found my SE catalog and the electric fan kit is £399 + £100 fitting.

It uses 2 electric fans with temperature switches and a solid bottom rad hose.

It says it gives 5bhp increase and better engine sound.

Thankyou for the info...i would prefere electric fans as apposed to the viscus type....the zed should handle fine with electric fans temperature wise....i owned a pontiac transam last year before my zed and that was a 5.7 350 small block raced up with complete edelbrock rpm setup and was a 5 speed manual and as stock came fitted with a single electric fan and that handled fine in the summer...

electric fans and TT Zeds do not mix !

On a NA it could be worthwhile but NOT on a TT

It has been tried before and has killed quite a few engines

This because most elec fans don't even get near halve the cfm at full speed as the stock viscous fan.

Cheers mate i have a tt of course..

The most important question WHY !!!!!!!

even if it uses 5hp or whatever ... u will never know it u still got 295 left to play with
