socketed ECU's

You all know that the manual and auto have different ECU's, but is the difference only on the EPROM. If it is then does this mean that once an ECU has been socketed you could fit either a manual or auto chip depending on what car its for?

    The auto ecu is different from the manual as there are components relating to the auto box control.

     

    My Z is a manual with JWT upgraded eprom in an ecu from an auto.

     

    It works this way but wouldn't work when trying a manual ecu in an auto.
