Hi everybody,

I've just noticed my boost gauge for the 300zx tt dosen't seem to be working propery,

when i put the power down I get only to 0psi in first and it does go up a little when I put the power down hard but it drops away very quickly before i've even got to 4000 rpm. Performance seems very sluggish compared to normal but there are no other signs from the turbos like whistling, rattling etc. Any sugesstions

thanks JW

John,

Your gonna hate me for this, but welcome to my world!

Im afraid the symptoms you describe sound very much like a seized turbocharger.

Your not gettin hardly anything over 0psi of boost and the car feels slugish and lacking boost. You wont get any other signs from the turbos. I would get it seen to asap or stop driving the car as it can cause problems to seals Etc. if you keep boosting with one seized turbo.

im afraid the rebuild will cost about 1450 from silvia for stock turbos or 1600 fro 360 thrust bearing turbos to minimize the chance of this happening again. Also that turbo timer group buy might not be such a bad idea either ;o)

You might wanna check the boost guage is ok first but if it feels slow then i would say Seized turbo it is!

Sorry bud.

John,

Where abouts are you in the UK? You need to take the car to a specialist who can correctly diagnose whether it is a shagged turbo or not. ECU diagnostics check would not be a bad idea though! See if you have any error codes.

If you have to remove the turbos consider something like the T25/T28 turbine upgrade which probably isn't that different in the price.

Jez.

plus if it is a turbo look on some of the us sites as there are group buys all ove rthe place,

for 1600 quid you could get much better than anything sylvia could ofer you

Just a note the 1600 quid includes £600ish for removing the engine removing and fitting the turbo's and then refitting the engine, including servicing it. Therefore the cost of the turbo's is £1000.
