Has NE1 recorded the amount of oil used when doing an oil change. The manual says 3 litres W/O filter, 3.4 litres with filter and 3.7 litres with filter and oil cooler. I put 3.7 litres in, ran the engine for a while, then let it cool for a while and drain down. It only registered 3/4 full so I put in the remaining 0.3 ltrs giving a total of 4. Checked it today (one week later) and its half way up the bloody dipstick. So, how much did you put in in your last oil change, unless you took it to a garage!

So WTF is going on. I put in a full can of Mobil 1 15/50 Motorsport F/S (4 Litres) and its reading about 3-4 inches above the full mark. Its a 1990 Jap spec by the way but I would not of thought that it would make a difference.

From memory I think the jap spec oil cooler is slightly smaller than the Uk one, as is the auto box oil cooler, this might cause the discrepancy.

Changed my oil to Mobil 1 in March (TT Auto - Jap spec) and it took the 4 litres exactly.

I had filled the new oil filter with some of the oil before screwing it on.

Mine usually takes all the Mobil 1.

Like you say, most non-euro cars do have the smaller oil cooler so will need less oil
