hi all reasons why 350zx does nout for me. the back end looks like they ,ve nicked the design from porsche 928 the front end from a toyota celica and the middle an audi tt not an original design at all same with all new cars these days they all pinch designs off each other , ran out of ideas i guess.. they will never beat the 300zx for its sleek looks purebred class the z 32 so whoever is responsible for the 350zx design should have spent another 9 yrs to dream up something which doesn,t look german mind you hitler would have been mighty proud of it. anyway thats my view on it cully z:D :D :D

not being funny, but the 300zx is so NOT sleek, though i agree totally with the Nissan boxter-TT-alikey statements. :)

I also thaught so, until i saw it in the flesh, makes our car look dated no doubt, ill defo get one when i can.

I went to have a look at one a couple of months ago, and I have to say I thought it looked f**king awful, nevermind being derivative, it looked bulky and clumsy and too high and I even preferred the scooby 22b next to it;) thats how much I didnt like it.

Possibly driving it may have changed my mind, and maybe I'd have liked it in another colour than white, but I doubt it very much.

..they've definitely copied bits from the cars you mention and probably a few others (and I can't stand the current fashion in headlight design - where did that start, was it the Ford Focus?).

 

I preferred some of the previous 350 concepts, I thought one looked a bit more like a cross between an Aston Martin and a TT (which is a slightly better combination...!). At least the new one looks quite chunky and substantial, whereas the current Celica looks like it's made of tin-foil and would blow away in a moderate breeze....

 

However, surely we must all be pleased that they've kept the Z line going, 'cos it must help to maintain interest in the wonderful, original, sexy Z32?

These were the original z cars and worthy of the badge too!

well my brother-in-law in L.A. has seen plenty of the new 350Zs and when we were talking on the phone last week he said that he really prefers the look of the 300 - it looks more the business he said!

Make no mistake the 350 is the next progression.

 

The Car is very very good.

 

Once you have seen many of them i am sure you will agree.

I have seen many in Japan and the Car is superb.

 

Even more superb is the price 24K remember the 300's ran at 35K.

 

Also many 300's here are modded so consider the 350 with mods also Engine and Body.

 

I agree with the TT hints but I also think that is a well styled car.

 

Of course I prefer the 350 in its Ginger Tint.

 

Give it a chance....

The 350Z is a class design which will improve with age and familiarity.(not that horrible kit car at Billing though!)

In Japan they have already started easily tuning them to approx 430+bhp.That's without turbos!

It's a different car than the old Z32 and is aimed at a different type of "sports car" market.

The "supercar" market will in future be catered for by the up and coming GTR coupe.

IMHO, Renault make some fantastic engines. Yes, they went off the boil a bit in the late '90s and early 2k's, but they're getting their act together again..

 

You only have to look at the spec of the v6 that's in the Clio v6 - there aren't many NA V6's out there putting out the power that does in standard trim, nor at the revs it does (peak power is in the 7000's if I remember right).

 

But then - Renault have a long line of good engines if you look back.

 

The A610 and Alpine had potent TT V6 engines (I seriously considered one before I got the Z - insurance costs put me off. You think a Z is expensive to insure? Try quadrupling the quotes..).

 

The Renault 19 16v had a fantastic engine, 140bhp and a power band from 4500rpm to almost 8000rpm if you raised the limiter - the only things that came close to it in it's day were the original (pre-crippling emissions gunk) Vauxhall 2ltr 16v lumps. I loved that car, and wringing it's mechanical neck on a daily basis. Fantastic fun.

 

And what about the Renault 5 GT Turbo? I know a lot of people on here will laugh, but it's a stonking engine. Pushrod 8v OHV engine from the late 1950's, and it was still going in the mid 90's with a turbo bolted to the side.. And it's a piece of proverbial to get them up to a genuine 200bhp at the crank. Plus they rev their little nuts off, and they're bulletproof (yes, I know we've all seen them blown up at Pod, but if you run stupid boost without the fuelling, any car will die.. I know of one that runs ~40psi though - not many Z's running that kinda boost ;)).

 

Anyway, sermon over. As you can see, I have a soft spot for Renault engines (the cars do tend to fall apart from around the engines though! Lol. At least, my 5 did.. The 19 16v was the most reliable car I've ever owned..)

Renault made sone stonking 1.5L turbo Grand prix engines too, back in the '80s!

For most manufacturers to survive nowadays they need to platform and engine share....fact of life!

I dont know if you guys have seen any pics yet of the 350 convertible in that TOTALLY AWESOME blue but I'll tell ya something....I MUST HAVE IT!

because companies are so big and "efficient"/greedy that no-one is allowed/has the bottle to take a risk.

jobsworths are the prder of the day - blandness is fashionable.

It's had a good write-up in Sept TG but, judging from the pictures, it is not as well proportioned as the 300ZX - just look at that side view, almost as bad as the Audi 'Squashed Beetle.'

 

Some minor changes eg. clear/smoke lenses, centre brake light

and the Zed is still a cracker.

 

Anyone remember the Citroen CX? lovely car but look what they replaced it with - most disappointing; worse than that - awful.

(Could have been worse - Edsel:p)

 

New Viper is good, v.g., but look at the price.......

Aaron the engine in a V6 Clio is actually made by Peugot and the gearbox derived from a Master van !!!!

 

I don't think peak power was as high as that, more like 6400 if memory serves me right. I stand to be corrected though as it's a while ago since I last worked on one.

 

Anybody see the one at Billing with the little supercharger on it ?

 

As for the 350, I think it looks to much like an Audi TT, doesn't stand out enough.

I don't think all manufacturers are like it. Look at the bold designs Renault have come up with in the last 3 years. Granted they may not be everybodies cup of tea, but they're certainly not plain.
