i read somewhere on this forum that it is relatively easy to get a zx up to 400bhp. is this true. i.e. is it easy and cheap or easy and EXPENSIVE. i have a imported TT which i assume is 280bhp standard. I have a boost controller but i dont think it works. So my question is......If it is relatively cheap and easy to get 400bhp then could someone tell me (preferably in detail) what i need to get and do and also someone in the midlands that would be able to help.

Thank you

Well 400 bhp at the wheels or at the flywheel (the latter is a guess figure)

To get it at the wheels youll need

555cc injectors (around 550 -600 pounds)

Boost controler (You have ojne which one?)

ECU - (anywhere from 250 for cheap ripoff ones to 500 pounds for a JWT)

Bigger intercoolers :D - around 450-500

Decent exhaust around - 550

Decet intake - 120-160 depending on whihc filter

And allt hat woudl be pushing it on stock turbos (they max out around 400wheel horespower) you really need larger blowers for more power.

then you need a decent brake setup - suspension setup ect... so its not as cheap as people make out.

Dont forget a mass of labour on top of that!, 300's are not cheap cars to work on;)

I would start with boost ugrade (you already have controller, see if you can get it fixed?) induction kit and exhaust, I'd get those cats out aswell, if it were me. This will be a healthy, relatively cheap increase in bhp......then go from there.

We all like spending our money on things that make the Z go faster but don't forget about the brakes and suspension like 300z said.

Cheap!!........300ZX!!........I'm sorry but I've never heard those two in the same sentence before! :D ;)

I'd say a stock 300 is quite restricted and nowhere near it's potential. Many powerful cars are highly tuned to get that power - a 300 has lots of untapped potential. Only early mods like zorst, filter etc. are RELATIVELY cheap compared to the power gains they give. Also- the engines can easily cope with a lote more power than stock.

Thanks everyone. I will have to start saving up. hopefully i should have the money in the next 10 years!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

thanks

Paul C just had a look at your link? how much does that setup cost?

Well it is better to find out what you have got first, then build upon that after a reliable major service!

If you have any weak points in your car then tuning it further will advance their failure!

Mongoose exhaust cost me £450 group buy from smithy

JWT induction $100 from Courtesy

JWT chip - erm ask around ;)

Boost jets (boost cotroller is preferrable before every one starts!) £1.50! (mig tips)

Clutch & flywheel £695 from Smithy

you will also need a decent boost gauge, think i paid around £100 for gauge & a pillar trim, again from smithy

Traction Control is also a real benifit with this amount of power (trust me! :o ) £540 at the moment - again a group buy.
