Anyone ever had a noisy wheel bearing?

My late (96) import tt (only 38k) has a horrible bearing noise which sounds like a front wheel bearing to me.

My local main agent will only say "yes there is a noise, let it develop"

Hope it isn't anything worse. Anyone any experience of noisy wheel bearings on tt's?

Sounds like the brake pad 'warning' device! Check your pads - they have a metal strip attached which rubs on the brake rotor when the pad has nearly worn out. They make a horrible sqeeling noise. The strips are on the pad which is mounted on the right hand side of each rotor (e.g Drivers side is on the outside).

Hope this makes some sense...

Firstly, worse thing you can do is "let it develop!" especially if it is your wheel bearing. I had one start to go on my Merc not long after I got it. Get it checked/done asap. My mate left one on his car for longer than required and result was one of his wheels stopped turning and seized. Garage had to use cutting torch to get the knackered bearing out!!!

Piece of preverbial piss to tell if it is! Take the car to ATS, they will tell you in two minutes as they did with mine. They put the car up on the lift, spin the offending wheel, and put a thumb on the shock. You will feel the vibration through the shock which will tell you if it's a bearing on the way out. Simple test, piece of mind! Price? About £100 fitted on my Merc...Z? No idea!
