Just popping out to holfords to see if there is a booster type seat that will fit the rear of my 2+2. My son and heir is 2½ soon (and 15Kg) and currently has a seat strapped in the front (he rides with me more than his mum does). Thing is, we occasionally go out all together and so he needs to be moved onto the back (so mum can stop complaining about how small the back of the car is!)

Can anyone recommend a seat that fits or do I have to try them all and see for myself?

Many thanks for useful suggestions.

The rear seats ARE like kiddy seats!

(and no, sorry, not sure if they do child seats for the rear. Have you checked Courtesy?)

Porsche do a child seat especially for the rear of their cars; they fit perfectly in the rear of a 300 too, as the rear seat shape is very similar. not cheap though.

I actually found a group 2-3 seat at halfords by Gracco which fits quite well, but I've still had to fill in the 'hole' that the bucket seat makes.

SO,

I got a bin liner, sat it on the seat, pumped it full of expanding building foam and sat the car seat on top, strapping it down in position. The lack of moisture in the bin liner means that the foam takes a lot longer to cure, but this should result in a fairly dense foam consistency (I hope!)

It still hasn't finished hardening, as it's only been in there about an hour or so.

If it works I'll let you all know, but so far it looks like it's going to work pretty well.

Fingers crossed eh?

I hope it works for your kiddies sake!

Yeah, thanks for the concern, but my wife used to work in the industry and you'd be surprised how crap most of the products are that we trust with our childrens welfare to!

This will be a proper job, or he won't get to sit in it, rest assured!

otherwise you can make it out of fibreglass.

Can't be bothered with the mess and the smell etc, but this would certainly work.

And judging by the lack of knowledge atr places like Halfords, mothecare, toys r us etc, there is definitley a market for a specialist product for 2+2s.

Just look how many people advertise there cars withthe lame excuse 'new baby forces sale!'

When we had a kid I went out and bought a Z!

OK, so my quote didn't work sorry Vijay

Can someone tell me how to do that properly?

Nice one Nigel, what you're doing is exactly how we used to fit people in race cars, or at least the same principal. Fill a bin bag with a mixture that expanded around the driver forming a perfect fitted race seat. Can't remember what it was now but it was 2-part and I think it came from DemonTweeks

Let us know how you get on.

:)

I put a cushion in the bucket and then straped the seat to the back with those non-tearing 500kg lugage straps, also using the seat belt through the back.

Its now safer than being strapped in the front seat as a driver lol.

So far the expanding foam is a bit of a half-success.

The bits that have cured are the right shape and seem solid enough to do the trick. The problem is that the bin liner is a sealed container as the foam nearest the opening of the liner seems to have cured first, leaving a 'half-baked souffle' texture in the middle. I just tried splitting the bag to get air and moisture into the centre and managed to produce a real icky mess that has been difficult to keep off my new (and very expensive) leather interior!

The theory seems sound, but I should have built up the foam in layers and allowed each one to cure before applying the next.

I've certainly got something I can use, but I may have to clear out the icky bits and re-mould a new section to finish the job.

Fun fun fun

and yes, I now have bits of expanding foam stuck to all my fingers!

Or that, too. :p :D

hey it works!

I think, cause I won't know for sure till I post this and see how it looks!

Looks fine !

Thanks guys.

Now I need to experiment with quoting small excerpts and I'll be a real pro!

Or maybe I could just go out and get a beer now?

just edit the quoted bit as normal and you're away!

As for your foam not curing problem, why not try TT Tim's suggestion? It would seem that a 2 part foam would cure all through much better than an air-hardeneing one when you exclude air from it! ;)
