Whilst having the exhaust done yesterday, I noticed that the exhaust heat shield was rusted through where it clamps just below the outlet manifold. Whether because of the new pipe, or because I didnt hear it over the noise made by the old pipes, I dont know, but it was vibrating like a bugger this evening. Question is: Can I just remove it? or should I remove it and lag the pipe?

is anything going to melt, ignite etc?

Or anything else anyone could suggest?

only trying to bring this back up to see if anyone has an answer

I understand that you need the heat shields if nothing else to keep the temperature in the passenger cabin down.

When I needed to replace some I got a set from Andyz. They were very cheap.

the ones on the cats also stop you setting dry grass on fire when your parked :D seen that once LOL!! also stops water splashing up onto the cats cracking them when hot

I removed one from my driver side exhaust as it was rattling, it hasn't caused any problems, but then I only did it because I am getting a new exhaust ASAP,

well the one over the cat is not a problem, as I removed the cats and put a straight through pipe on.

In leiu of a different answer I went out today and filled the gap around it with mastic.

I know what your thinking, it will melt and smell like sh*t, and I thought the same until I checked the tin, it is good for 250 deg C and whjen I checked some exhaust bandage , it was only good for 170.

Have run it for a while and it seems ok. Heres hoping:D

I think that you will find that the one over the cat is a problem as the cat runs a lot hotter than the straight through pipe. It will make the inside a lot hotter!

sorry, I meant was not a problem as the cat is no longer there, my new pipe runs from the rear of the o2 sensor back.

replacement pipres don't have them and mine has been alright fopr 2 years so should be fine to remove.

makes me wish I had went for a manifold back pipe.lol

Devil, on your pies, what did you do about the o2 sensor bush? can you buy one?

This was the main reason why I didnt get the full system, the exhaust guy couldnt source the bush to refit the o2 sensors.

  • Author

where the o2 sensor enters the pipe, there is a "bush" on the pipe wall which the sensor screws into

I thought the o2 sensors where on the manifold. The cat sensors are on the pipe.

  • Author

not as far as I am aware, I removed the cats and sensors. there is a small bore pipe which joins the exhaust just shy of the cats, which sits into a bush. I am lead to believe that these are the o2 sensors

Oh. Mine might be different then as it is SWB.

Just thinking. You sure your not talking about a mounting bracket hich justs holds the exhaust up. If you are mine did have these but don't need them.

  • Author

nah, definately not mounting brackets, I junked all them as well.

No worries I will have a troll through the manual and saee if there is a part number, thanks for the input :D
