Do TT decat pipes fit NA?

Featured Replies

Doubt it because they normally bolt onto the turbo housings !

If they come off a Jspec TT then they'll fit.

And it doesn't matter if the car is a 2+2 or 2+0

But I suggest you don't decat your NA (unless they're clogged) ...you'll lose a LOT of low end power.

The NA engine needs the backpressure from the cats.

No they don't - they bolt onto the turbo quarter pipe :p :D

They will Andy,ChrisC bought some off a guy for his TT!

OK, pleased to hear it. Guess that the headers on an NA must be quite long then.

I think the only problem you will have by fitting them on a TT is the hangers!

Chris fitted N/A to a TT,no hangers LOL!

I am doing decate pipes from TT to a NA

SO i will loose power not gain power

So is a spots zorst worth doing

I am getting confused by what i should be doing to my car to get more power out of it

so got a k an n induction kit

Yup I can confirm I put a set of Mongoose decat pipes from a NA on my Jap TT with no problems apart from there being no hangers on them so all the weight is on the turbos :(

I was told by JP Exhausts (who made the rest of my system) to get some welded on where the stock ones go as the system is very heavy to hang all the way from rear to front with no support!

But... the guy with the NA said the car was unbearably loud with them on and sold them!

Can't remember his name right now...

Turbo's really cut down the noise and my system is pretty loud as Macca will tell you.

Load of complete bollocks! I took the cat out of a Pug and the low down grunt,if you can call it that has improved!

Funny, I did that and it had the EXACT opposite effect! In fact it lost power almost everywhere in the rev range lol - good old french engineering :D:D:D

Ian did it still have the original exhaust system on it?

Yes mate,I just knocked that nasty stuff out that blocks it:D

iv had good results decatting NA cars.

Back pressure being good is bollox IMO, get the gasses out as quick as poss, if the cat is causing a restriction then derestricting should cause better gas flow & increase torque & power

dont pretend to ba car person, but know bikes.

In a bike the only thing that wants back pressure is a two stroke, hence the w*nky little hair drier noise through a piece of microbore.

Four strokes? Exhaust gasses are like bad drunks ...Just get em outside in as straight a line as possible!

you have a look at a sports exhaust on a bike and it is a straight through pipe.

EXUP? Yamaha seem to think you can tune 4 stroke exhausts for better poer delivery throughout revrange. But I don't think it's back pressure per se - just tuning the pulses so that -ve pressure arrives at the exhaust valve just when needed to suuuck burnt gases out of the cylinder?

Or am I talking test1cles (a better class of b0ll0cks :D )

Cheers - Gio

no - your spot on Gio. Shockwave tuning, using the inertia of the exiting gasses to draw the gasses from the following cylinders on their exhaust stroke. this principle relys on low back pressure ;)

the reason for the other gizmos they stuck in bike exhausts was so that they tuned the bike for top end speed and then inserted the above make the bike more user friendly at the bottom of the rev range, eg : so that you didnt have to rev the nuts out of it to pull away. I should point out that the YPVS, the original of the species, was designed for the maddest two stroke ever to grace thestreets of this green isle The 350 LC.

The proof of the pudding is that despite the added gubbins the R1, Fireblade et al all run better on aftermarket pipes which remove the various "powervalves"

all i can say about cats is ........try to imagine running a marathon with cotton wool stuffed in your mouth?......well thats what a car has to do when its got cats on.......get rid of these and the engine can breath alot better......:D

well I'm getting a new exhaust from Predator Motorsports in Welwyn Garden City. It's booked in for the beginning of June.

He highly recommended getting rid of the cats as their rammed full of stuff, and there will probably be extra s**t from the years of use.

I spent several hours yesterday discussing the issues with him and deciding on design.

He runs a Nismo modified 300ZX which he imported from Japan quite a few years ago. I took it for a spin and it was brilliant. He has taken it up to 180 mph.
