My local scrappy made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

It was a set of 17inch alloy wheels which came off a late model MR2, though I don't think they are original. They are 10 spoke with 10 small stud holes at the top of each spoke. At the rim end there are two allen key studs each side of the spoke. They look more decoritive than practical. the wheels are the normal alloy colour except the outer rim which shines like stainless steel.

They are fitted with yokohama tyres which are less than a quarter worn. the tyre sizes are 135-40-17, the other two being 205-40-17, but I expect I could live with that for a while. They came with the wheel nuts, which being very slim have a allen key type fitment on the end to tighten them up. All this for £200.

You have probably guessed, the nuts don't fit! The thread is too course for the studs.

I was wondering if anyone recognises these wheels and nuts, and had any idea where I could get some to fit.

I have tried local shops and most have never seen wheel nuts like these. I thought it was all too good to be true.

Any help would be great.

Do mr2 wheels fit 300zx?

I have just bought a Celica from Japan, if you cant sort out the wheels/nuts problem I might be interested. cars not here for weeks so no rush. Thought it might help.

The wheels fit ok, it's the nuts which are the problem

Mark Stevens-- If I have no luck I'll bear you in mind for the nuts will fit all toyotas.

Ok thanks, just thought it might save you some money if the worst happens, and as I said the car wont arrive for weeks so there is loads of time for you to try to make them fit.

Dunno, but I know that Zed wheels don't fit MR2's as we tried one day whilst looking for track day tyre options. They would bolt on but the offset was all wong and the caliper fouled the spokes.

I have some brand new and still boxed 17" alloys, if you want them. I am looking for £250 for them. I can get a full set of tyres for them for about £140. Mail me if interested and i can mail you a pic.

Andy P, you are right MR2 wheels do not fit a Z, they hit the callipers.

I first checked them on a z31 which is in my garage with it's wheels off. They fitted over the callipers no problem, and I assumed it would be the same for a z32, wrong!

I also noticed when comparing the 17 inch with the stock wheel, how much smaller it was around the circumference. It seems, to match the same size, 18 inchx 40 are required.

All in all, the whole episode has been a disaster.

I took them back today, and explained the problems and he gave me my money back.

I'll be a little more careful in future!
