Hi guys,

I've noticed if I leave the engine idleing for some time then drive off, I get a cloud of blue/white smoke from the exhaust for a few minutes, mainly during acceleration... This is intermittent, I think. Is this norm or should I worry??? The turbos and engine were reconditioned not too long ago!!!

ALSO, is there anywhere near the rear underside of the car prone to some some of oil leak? I'm sure I've noticed oil drips on my drive that weren't there before. I may be mistaken, so I will investigate further...

Regards,

Peter

Can't help with the smoke, but as for the il leak it's worth checking all of your engine seals as oil can drip onto the exhaust and then run back before it drips off. You wouldn't see any under the engine as the belly pan catches it !

Cheers Konrad,

I'll leave it standing for a while and see how we go!!!

REgards,

Peter

Smoke sounds like breather probs to me - just replace the hoses and PCV valves. The hoses people often omit are the ones from the intake cam covers to the turbo inlet pipes - these must be replaced too as they clog up. Need any more info just ask ;)

CheerZ,

Andy

I've got the same symptoms as you Peter!!

Only I didn't notice any smoke until I had the exhaust de-catted!

I think my turbo seals are leaking oil , any one know how to tell if this is deffinately the problem?

Cheers,

F.T.

I'd be interested in the answer to fat tony's Q as well. Same symptoms as Peter. So is it andyduff's hoses and valves or something far worse (turbos)?

TIA - Gio

Oil leak at the rear? If its not the diff then on UK cars the rear oil cooler pipe connections can leak. Did it on mine and leaked onto the offside exhaust. Imports dont have the rear oil cooler afik

Other poss is hicas piping but then it should be reddish in colour!

Beware of any brake hydraulics leaking

Gio, FT, yes do the breathers!!!!! MOST turbo problems are in fact not the turbo at all - just the breather system clogged up! I wonder how many good turbos have been replaced over the years......

Remember the breather kit? The reason that cured the turbo smoke was because you were basically replacing the breather hoses - fitting new standard hoses would have had the exact same effect IMO

CheerZ,

Andy

I feel it's more likely the hoses as my turbos were re-conditioned not too long ago...

OK Andy, you've convinced me - is there a parts list or "how-to" anywhere? (Sorry for hijacking Peter's thread but at least it's vaguely on topic :D )

Thanks - Gio

My car is going in soon to have the turbos sorted!!

If it is the breathers then I'd better get them done first I suppose.

Does anyone know what parts I'd need ?

Any advise gratefully received!!

And as Gio already said, sorry for hijacking your thread!!

Cheers,

F.T.

Tut Tut Tut Mr Pingram ;)

I'll find the part numbers now ;) :D

Honestly the things I do for you guyZ..... :D

Here you go:-

11823-40P10 HOSE - BLOW BY (drivers side)

11823-40P00 HOSE - BLOW BY (passenger side)

FT - DEFFO get this done BEFORE you replace the turbos - just think what else you could buy with the money ;)

CheerZ,

Andy

Bugger - I did intend to post a comment saying there were more, but I forgot. Those where the ones I did when I replaced the PCV's anyway. Will do the rest one day ....

Can I suggest someone sets up a Group buy on these from courtesy?

Andy, IMO the front breathers are the MOST IMPORTANT parts to replace. They have what looks like a pipe cleaner (Macca shut the f#ck up :D) inside them to 'scrub' the air - this gets blocked and no longer allows the engine to breath properly...

Hope that makes sense.

CheerZ,

Andy

First Person to say Group Buy gets to manage it ROFL

I've only just placed my order with courtesy :( I can't add to it because it has been despatched otherwise I would have put everyone on mine...

Set up another thread - prefferably a TTnet member to set it up due to an extra discount with courtesy ;) Hell, I'll even put up the list of parts to order - all you need to do then is multiply the parts by the number of people wanting to buy the kit...

HTH

CheerZ,

Andy

Thanks Andyduff and Andy P for your help.

Top blokes!!:D

I'm in for the group buy because I was going to get them anyway after what you said Duffers!

Are they that much cheaper from Courtesy as I was going to give Nissan dealers a ring and see if they've got any!

Cheers,

F.T.

give the car some serious red line then check your rear bumper for oil. LOL

that is what i was told by a nissan mechanic. when i took my car to them.

Twats.............. :D

Sorry be being a little thick, but I'm a little confused with the different parts and part numbers members have been submitting. Can I clarify this is all I'll need to cure the smoke problem:

PCV Valve - part no. 11810-40P00

PCV Valve Hose (RH) - part no. 11826-30P01

PCV Valve Hose (LH) - part no. 11836-30P11

Hose Blow By (Driver Side) - part no. 11823-40P10

Hose Blow By (Passenger Side) - part no. 11823-40P00

Are they easy to fit?

Cheers,

Peter

Peter have a look at this and then you can decide whether you want to have a go yourself!
