I suppose they do let you surf the web all day, so it's not all bad. :)

Don't think so somehow. I only pay £25 for 5 litres now, and I don't really care as to whether it has a little yellow seashell on the bottle - it has all the right standards marks on it, which are more important ! ;)

I would do - but not sure whether I could buy numerous packs and can't remember the exact cost - think 4 litres was ~£24, as opposed to over £30 in the shops.

Will find out if you are interested.

Castrol RS 10/60 for over 3 years,Must be good never had any engine problems :D

  • 1 month later...

Just bought some 15w50 mobil 1,

Is that fine or would u say the 15 is a bit too high?

Probably OK with that. The 50 is more important as it relates to viscosity at operating (hot) temps.

Hows about £20 for 4 litres of castrol rs 10/60?

Anyone want any? or is that group buy on the drum cheaper?

I will have £100 worth, can pay your mate on Monday as I am going over that way;)

No probs. Sort it with stu and tell him to call me. Ill leave it with him, that OK?

I thought the Z was supposed to use 10/40? I read it somewhere.

Is the 60 thicker or thinner when hot? Im guessing thicker so it's better for older engines?

Ive asked this before but no one replied:( !!

You'd be best emailing

steatherton@blueyonder.co.uk

We can take it from there :)

I have gear oil too, 75/90 fully synth castrol TAFX £42 for 6 litres.

MAC1...want any? ;)

Now then, please explain, my mechanic (who is well known to some forum members as a zed specialist) insists that 15-40 is the thing to use on a ZXTT.

I have no idea what all this relative viscosity and temperature malarky is all about, so can someone please explain what the difference between 15-40 and 10-60 would be???? -and why you all seem to like the latter so much?

Many thanks.

Meanwhile - I'll have 4 litres of Guiness please!

Just had a full 60,000 mile service(with belt changes etc.) at GPS and they refilled with Valvoline Synpower 5W-50. Never heard of it but it seems to be pretty good, and I`m sure GPS wouldn`t use it if it wasn`t.

You get Valvoline from Costco. Fully Synth and a good price. Its an American make of oil. If you watch Nascar car or Champcar (formally Indy Car) and you see banner of bill boards with a multi coloured V, thats Valvoline.

I have used it and personally I thought it was too thin and I think it's 5-40 not 5-50. Anyways, the engine created 1 or 2 little sounds which didnt sound quite right. I changed the oil to 10-40 and every thing was back to normal :D

The Castrol RS is 10-60, works well because I think the 10W is better suited for UK weather and 60 becasuse the engine is damn hot.

i went to loads of motor factors and couldnt find 10.60 anywhere, so i got some mobile 1 fully synth 15/50 that should be ok shouldnt it. damn expensive, tho i did get a free autoglym resin polish with it worth 6.99, pity id just bought a bottle of it the day before, doh.

Exactly what i bought and installed over the weekend, seems good, she don't sound like a steam engine no more!

Also i had to get mobile 1 as i got loads of mobile1 track record documents with the car :)

Stuart. Thanks for that bit info. After looking at Valvolines website and product range there`s no sign of a 5 - 50 oil but thats what it says on the bottle- SAE 5W-50. Seems to be doing the job ok. Touch wood!-(Which is always better than touching cloth!!!)

It will be I think. I ran it for a while had not problems except one little tappet noise. Changing to a "thicker" oil seemed to get rid of it, but my Z has probably dont more than twice as many miles than most. ;)
