After a recommendation from a mate, went to see Longlife exhausts.

T304 SS exhaust, twin exits, downpipes back (ex cats) £656 fitted in 2-3 hrs?

Has anyone on here used them? opinions?

And the best bit is I dont have to drive 300 miles to have em fitted!

I got a Mongoose exhaust and its lasted 3 years and there is not a bit of rust on them. I took the whole exhaust off last week. Its all stainless steel and you can get them for about £450

I did look at mongoose, but there is the ordering, posting and having to fit it myself. These guys build the exhaust onto the car ( they doont do any stock) and I pick the car up in the afternoon

Hi Jock,

I have one of their made up/templated systems on my Paul Bailey kitted 2+0, and it looks and feels a quality product. Unfortunately I have not done any miles yet, but the sound when running is good, a nice deep note, not loud (but they can tailor this for you). They were recommended by Paul himself, and make his exhaust systems.

Mine was actually made down in Cardiff, but as you most probably know a branch is in Wallington (020-8669-1719). (Fyi, I work in Croydon).

Ciao, Geoff

cheers geoff,

did you have to put a chip in to match it?

Where in SE are you?

Hi Jock,

Sent you a message.

The chip is normally the 3rd upgrade, after the Induction and Exhaust (see the FAQ section). It is not needed because of the exhaust change. You should feel the benefit from the better breathing and cleaner extraction.

The chip allows the turbos to boost higher, generating more bhp and money for the insurance company. Normally the chip has a remap to keep everything (most things) under control with the higher boost, although you should not exceed 1 bar without further modification first. The boost level can initially be controlled by jets, but a Boost Controller is highly recommended as the 4th upgrade (ignoring at your peril the suspension and brakes).

Cheers, Geoff

I agree. People spend too much time and money making the car go faster which makes it more dangerous and over look making the car stop quicker which makes the car safer.

Stuart

I had a twin exit stainless system made for my VTR from them and for the first month it was awesome, loads more top end power and a roar that shook birds out of trees :p

But then it started to rattle like hell, I took it back to them and they said because it was a straight through system with no cat or centre boxes it was resonating.

I sold the VTR before I got the chace to fix it :(

Have a look at my VTR videos on my site to get an idea of how it sounded.

Jock.........think I recall speaking with you before about where in Croydon you were.

Just around the corner to you is Powerflow, in Factory Lane. They also fit the system to your car while you wait. Stainless with Lifetime gaurantee, and there is quite a choice of different tailpipes and size of backboxes to suit your choice of sound/look etc.

They did mine and I'm really pleased with it. If you'd like to check mine out, listen to it etc, give me a shout, I'm only round the corner from you and we'll go for a spin.

From what I've heard Powerflow have been renamed Power-rust

Lots of Saxos have had them fitted and probably 70% have rusted to bits in no time.

That's not to say all Powerflow exhausts rust, just it has been known to happen, there's just quite a few people unhappy with the quality of powerflow's stainless.

But then I know a person who has had problems with Longlife

Here's my old Longlife

Rearview

Closeup

Some videos, If I can get the links right :p

The best thing was popping and banging when lifting off the throttle, changing up and down the gears :D

Driveby fast

Driveby slow

In car

Startup

In car 2

That's how a little 1.6 sounds, I can only imagine how a 3.0 V6 sounds!!!   ;)

Eric, I can't see how a stainless system would rust to bits in no time? Are you sure these Saxo boys didn't go for the budget mild steel option?

I've had mine for a couple of years and still looks like it was fitted yesterday........and as I said, lifetime gaurantee aswell.

If my exhaust suddenly got kidnapped by aliens I would back at Powerflow tomorrow.

You can only go by your own experiences and mine have been excellent with them. If you were to see and hear mine I think you would become a fan! (on your "close up" pic the tubing looks a bit skinny, just popped out and measured mine and its 2 1/4 inches)

btw popping and banging isn't a good thing - it's normally indicative of an air leak, usually on the manifold side !

I'm sure I would mate :D

I was going on things like this:

Power rust

There used to be many more threads on the Saxo forum about rusting Powerflow exhausts but can't find them now.

Still I'm sure like all companies most are probably ok and you get a few bad ones.

(Can't back up my arguement with proof so I'll shut up now ;) )

All Saxo's pop and bang to a certain extent with aftermarket exhausts, something to do with hot exhausts and unburnt fuel vapour I think.

Get even more with a heat lagged 4-1 manifold fitted.

Really, well I presume that's a pretty efficient way of trashing catalysts and silencers then, not to mention a waste of fuel ...

Found this:

Reason most of em pop + bang on lift of is your zorst is hot as f**k on the inside from you ragging it, then when you lift off the engine will run rich for a second while all the crap on the engine side of the throttle is sucked in, due to the over-richness some fuel isnt burnt, it goes thro to the zorst, where it meets a shitload of hot metal and plenty of room for it to expand.. pop

If that makes any sense

;)

Killing the CAT didn't worry me because I didn't have one.

And this...

wat I should of said was, because there very little baffles and no cat, bigger bore and all that, that because of the un-burnt petrol in the exhaust popping away, there nothing to silence those noises with a after market exhaust, standard exhaust all have loads of bollox in them to keep the noise down.

Hence why Aftermarket exhausts pop and standard ones dont.
