Doh !

Clicked the wrong button  I managed to vote that it looks good - whata mistaka to make !

You forgot to add - let's water in !

I like 'em. Still cant make my mind up which one to go for. Despite all the pointing and laughing I'm still tempted by a pylon spoiler (go on piss yourselves I dare ya!:D )

wot's a pylon spoiler ?

Why is the thread title boot spoilers and the poll for stock boot spoilers, I'm all confused now.......

A pylon spoiler has the wing section held up by alu or stainless pylons - hence the name;)

like the ones on fast and the furious (he says sheepishly)

Sorry shud have made it clearer. I suppose aftermarket ones could give an entirely different results for the poll. The reason for restricting this to stock ones is because they were allegedly designed for a practical reason (along with aesthetics). If aftermarket ones are better, why didn't Nissan put them on ? I suspect the large racing ones are useful when racing.

So guess this pole is fraught with problems :( Sorry...................

Yeah, that's why I clicked the wrong button thinking the poll was for aftermarket jobbies, which can look damn fine !

OE sucks !

Stillen type 3 - yeah baby !! ;) :D

oops, I voted thinking this was for any spoiler. Change my vote for No. 4 to No. 3 ;)

D'oh!

Misread the post, I thought it was about aftermarket Novaesque picnic trays so I've voted KAK!

I believe the standard spoiler does aid aerodynamics and therefore stability at speed.

Tim

Search on TT.net with people who have removed the stock spoiler and gone for the no spoiler NA look. They say when you get to over 60mph the back end feels light. Didnt feel safe at all.

Stuart

you will soon see the difference!! i did ! i'll never be without 1.

if you only drive at 50mph its gotto be all about looks!

I was going to replace my original (and now cracked) spoiler with a smoother flatter look - sorry but the guys who think bigger looks better cannot be serious! - That said - I don't want to reduce high speed stability. Does this mean my only option is to put a fibreglass replacement spoiler on? or are there better looking (subtle please!) options?

The best I've seen ar ab-flug racing ones - they are slim even tho' they are hgh compared to stock one. But I think they look cool, and they are as functional as they are cosmetic. Probably more popular in the USA.

I agree with you that the high level ones which most ppl put on in the UK are OTT IMHO. On a car with serious body-kit and detailing, they look OK/cool (eg. MAC1's car, cos he's a lot bigger than me !;) )

The thing about a 300ZX to me is that they are a sporty yet slightly understated, classy looking. The statement they make is - "this is a class ride and fast too" - not "this car is designed totally for speed". Big bodykits and spoilers look better on other cars IMHO - like Supras ?

Rice. :)

Eh ??

Big spoilers look shite IMO, AKA Rice.

means for looks rather than performances, ricers are the people you see in the civics with green lights emiting from their cars, comes from most ricers being asian and asians liking to eat rice.

Thanks.....it's been an education. :D

Jezz - if you're saying that people with good taste buy ZXs and those without buy Supras, then you could be on to something!

LOL

I was driving along the other day with my Mate (Honda CRX owner) beside me. A lowered, tweeked and bespoilered Supra (in that insipid wine red colour) went past (in the opposite direction) and my mate said....

"..well you just wouldn't, would you? ! "

QED?

Well I'd like to weigh in on the defence of high spoilers ...

Wasn't at all sure when I bought my car, but as time's gone by, I've grown to love it :D Even makes it easier to spot in the car park!!! ;)

Paul Bailey is the man IMO!

From the Enthusiasts Companion

With the car's high performance objectives, good aerodynamics was obviously important for stability and Toshio Yamashita worked closely with the wind-tunnel specialists to refine the chosen shape: 'We set a Cd target but ket the emphasis on styling. Cars with a good Cd don't necessarily look good' They were happy to achieve a Cd of 0.31 for the na car and to have a lift coefficient close to zero, front and rear.

It became clear, however, that the faster Turbo model would need a deeper front apron and a tail spoiler, even if these increased drag. While accepting the functional requirement, the designers prefer the 'pure' form of the normally aspirated car.

Later, the book says that the Turbo with spoiler has a Cd of 0.32

So the designers thought it necessary for high speed stability but that the car actually looks better without.

Two interesting (ish) questions - how does this Cd stack up against other sportscars? And has anyone got a Cd figure for big winged cars?

Cheers - Gio

The OE spoiler does look like it'd there in place of a larger spoiler !

Maybe they'd have sold more cars if they'd had a high level spoiler; instead of letting the Supra have the first of the kind ?

If they sent the original design of the car to Strosek BEFORE they released the car they'd have sold shed-loads more ! ;)

Are useless and look kak,Well they may look Kak to some people that is a oppinion. But they do work! Do a search about the Audi TT and rear spoilers!

Just maybe they'd have sold a load more if they were a bloody sight cheaper at the time ! The new 350Z is going to come in at less than the Z32 of 12 years ago ! Which taking into account inflation (although some car prices have been static-ish over the past few years) still makes the new one look a bargain.
