Squeaking from under the bonnet.........

and no, its definitely not mice!

Started a few months ago to be honest. Only audible at idle and sounds like a squeaky belt. However, I noticed today that when the car is idling, if I depress the clutch pedal and then release it, the noise goes, but then will slowly come back again after about 10 seconds or so. At first I though it might be the clutch / gearbox because the noise went when I kept the clutch down. However, seeing as the squeaking doesn't return immediately when I take my foot off the clutch, I'm not so sure. Any offers???

Cheers,

Dem.

Dem,

Im new to the 300ZX myself so cant give any car specific advice, however, it sounds to me exactly like a clutch release bearing on its way out.

Hope this helps!

i think ure right marky it smacks of thrust bearing i should know im always doing clutches in

Thank boys - hasn't anyone got any better (less costly!) news than that, like;

"it's the hot weather - don't worry, it'll disappear in the summer"?!?!?

Oh well, I'll see how it goes....

Cheers,

Dem.

No , but ive got some more costly news,

Could be the center shaft bearing failing like i have. Gearbox rebuild. Yum ! money.

Altho it probably is the Thrust bearing in your case as the noise only goes away periodically while the bearing is under load.

The good news is, if it is the thrust bearing it isn't usually a serious problem and you can let the worsen for a while, I drove my nasty thrust bearing for about 7 months before i got it changed with no problem. The sound is kinda cool then you get used to it ;o) If it is the gearbox you should get it changed as failure will kill the box totally. Take it to a tranny place or jack it up with help and listed to the gearbox for the sound.
