My N/A import Zed has recently developed a noise that I am certain will cost me more of the Zed tokens that the treasury calls money.

The noise is related to engine revs, but sounds half speed so to speak.

I had a group of mates round to try and pin point it, cos it seems to come from a different point depending where you stand or sit.

Anyway the majority seem to think its coming from the front of the engine near the top and more to the right as you look at it.

A new cam belt was fitted 13000 ago, new water pump 5000. I was wondering if the cambelt tensioner could have something to do with the problem.

Any ideas or tips chaps?

Are these parts agents only?

What oil are you running? Is it coming from inside the engine or from the outside/round the edge?

I had a ticking noise from my engine. I changed the oil to a thicker grade and it went.

Hi Stuart

The noise seems to be coming from inside the plastic timing chain cover.

Regarding the oil, I'm afraid I don't know what type i'm running, it was supplied by the garage that did the last sevice, (they also sold me the car).

What oil do you recommend.

Thanks

Steve

Its a question which is asked many times and there is no real answer.

For turboed cars Semi or Full syntetic is required to stop the oil congeling up on contact on the hot turbos.

For an NA, semi syntheic will do.

The reason I suggested it was I ran 0-40 and I got a ticking when my engine warmed up. I then got 5-40 and it was still there and I just basically shat myself becuase I thought my engine was about to blow up.

A few oil changes later I put 15-50 in and the ticking went.

I use Castrol RS 15-60 oil at the moment as it is meant to be the so called "BEST" but oil is oil for me. Just stay away from non major brands.

what sort of noise is it? could be bearings in any of the idle pulleys on the cambelt, there are 3 behind there!

i have exactly the same sound kinda like worn beerings, seem to eminate from the silver round cover on the right hand bank lower cam thing, a friend said it was the crank position sensor but didnt sound very plausable

Doesnt half engine speed relate to camshafts - maybe a noisy or sticking hydraulic tappet. Can happen if you dont use the car for a long time but should free up once you take it for a decent drive.

Whats the sound clack clack. tap, etc?

I have a noise that seems to come from the cam belt. More a shih shih, shihy shih at tackover - dont laugh! Not very loud its just me being paranoid about cambelt breakages.

Also had a new cambelt 18K ago.

Took the top left cam belt cover off to look at it whirring round and it all looked fine with no tears or fraying.

well lmfao, did a bit of tinkering today, and i was leaning on the fan shrowd and the noise stopped, it really did sound like a metalic rattle tho, i turned a screw in the fan shrowd fastening along top slam panel half a turn and its cured that horrible rattle, sounded really expensive to fix too. the simplest of things are often over looked i guess

is there anywhere in notts that will work on zeds?

cheers
