Hi Folks,

Well, my car's started to peel a bit - the plastic front air-dam (pre-99) has bits of paint coming off it which leaves a nice fleshy yellow coloured plastic showing through :(

My question is: How can I cheaply and effectively re-paint it? Do I need to get a professional to do it or can I squirt it with an aerosol can from Halfords?

I saw this thread:

http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12390&highlight=front+peeling+paint

but didn't really get the gist - TT Tim or Gio - how did you get on and what did you need?

Will I need to prime the placcy first? I guess I should strip it back to just the plastic - how best to do this? Can I seal it in some way so that this doesn't happen again?

And no, before you ask, I NEVER jet-wash my motor!

Russ.

If its that bad m8, I'd get it done properly at a refinishers, I doubt that they would charge you more than £150. Where are you? Peter at PPS is the guy to talk to he's resprayed half the Zeds in the UK! Ah, just saw, you're in n london - Newcastle is a little far for a bib respray!

As for how I got on... Whilst I was just keeping it neat, the aerosol worked fine, but I've had my car completely resprayed since and the new paint seems to be holding up better than the old stuff.

Tim

Take notice of what Tim is telling you;)If you require a permanent fix then you need a pro to do it.

I have a Urathane front bumper,It has been painted for 16 months and there are still no chips. PPS did mine too;)

Seaham!

That's fantastic news! I've got the same problem and I work in Peterlee, Co. Durham! :)

I need to get a new rear spoiler fitted. I assume they would be the people to see about that too?

Hi Russ - I wimped out and got a so-called professional to do it. Last October. Paint already peeling off.

I'm now saving up for a trip to FG in Nottingham to get this done and the spoiler fixed. Can't quite face the trip to the frozen north!

Cheers - Gio

They are the ONLY people to see if you ask me.

In the last couple of years they have done a lot of the most modded Z's on this forum - Macca, Timmy Turbo, DaveW, Vijay and mine. (I'm sure there's a few more I've forgotten)

Here's a pic of my baby at PPS (Needed a dust off after sitting for a week but you get the idea)
