Very very impressed.I feel sorry for you fellas with 2 turbo`s strapped onto the beast i`ve just had roaring back at me .HEY? THAT SOUND? THAT`S NOT BAD IS IT? Now that is a sound!!You`s fellas in the TT`s must have those seatbelt securing unit thingies that they have on rollercoasters to stop you getting thrown out.Very very impressed.

Exhaust was popping occasionally like a rally car when stationary high reving (no smoke though and very smoothe running)

what`ll that be?Dealer said migh be the mixture is a bit out or small hole in the exhaust but i doubt it would do that.

2 twin pipe exhausts could be newer i observed.

He said he`s putting a new clutch on and fixing the broken drivers side wing mirror.

Also a light occsionally came on on right side of dash looked like a red headlamp.Wasn`t touching the headlamp though.

Pipes were a bit rattly when stationary prob will be needing new exhausts in the first year me thinks.

Also grown men leapt from their cars screaming and wetting themselves and became small dots running far into the distance and flames burst from the pipes and naked women threw themselves on the bonnet(or was that just a day dream....)

Hi,

My NA 300ZX had the catalysts removed before I bought it...I then completed the job, by fitting 2.5" stainless steel scarab exhausts, with 4" tailpipes, from Luke Borg at The Z Centre.(see pictures on my 'profile' above)

The sound from these pipes makes a TVR sound wimpish, and although many say removing the cats affects your low down torque, the upside is greater mid range and top end power(approx 20bhp)!

Because the 300ZX is a large, relatively refined car, you often don't realise how fast you are accelerating and travelling...until you look in the rear view mirror!

I used to love changing down to 4th or 3rd gear in slower traffic on the motorway, and once it had cleared, give it full throttle, and watch the tailgating BMW's, Mercs and Vectras, disappear in the rear view mirror!(Hence my recent 56 day ban!...and subsequent sale of my beloved BEAST!)

My car used to 'pop and bang' from the exhausts when they were hot, particularly on the overrun, or when stuck in stationary traffic for a while. The TT owners have their exhausts muffled by the turbos, and so don't enjoy this anti-social activity so much. wink.gif

A good manual non-turbo is a great car...unfortunately most of the import cars are Autos, and therefore less desirable.

You will have to shop around for insurance, as most companies will only touch UK spec. Twin Turbos, and not imported NA's! I insured mine through 'A Plan' insurance's import division, at a very reasonable rate.

Hi MC Dave!

OK so the door mirror is 'strapped up' right?

And the exhasut is blowing?

Now on a bad day that could end up costing upwards of a grand to put right.

The car is too expensive in my humble opinion, but if it is an absolute minter then maybe ok.. but an absolute minter wont have a blowing exhaust and wonky door mirror.

The reason you get a different car detail when using online insurance quotes, I am not sure why, but my Jap TT manual comes out as a 2.5 turbodiesel Pajero at Bell Direct's online quote engine!!!

If insurance aint too much of a nightmare I would wholeheartedly recommend a twin turbo.

You could easily get a mint 91ish Jap import TT with leather and lots of other goodies for 9 large. smile.gif

I personally recommend you call Aplan (do a search on this forum for the number), they insure my car with (most;-) of the mods declared for £700 fully comp with 5ncd.

Perhaps talk to Jayen and see if his NA has sold, I reckon he could sort you out with a pukka TT if he has sold it!!

If not try gtrimports.co.uk

or Charlesworths of Nottingham.

Stay well away from veilside.co.uk

And dont buy from a trader in Leicester who shall remain anon frown.gif

Sorry for the negativity Dave, but I (and many others here) have been stung by lemon cars and shitty traders frown.gif

Get a pukka Z and be the happiest person on the planet, get a shitter and kiss goodbye to your credit rating frown.gif

Kind RegardZ

Glen

if you really really want an NA, and to be honest you have to really be looking and wanting one to buy one, especially if you have a go in a TT, then i think Jayen is still selling his.

check back or search, maybe in forsale section, he posted some links to pics etc, it looked very nice and he obviously looked after it.

UK 92 TT White

KYB Eibach

Just my personal opinion -no flames.

NA's look the part but are not the 'real thing'.

Don't know how the insurance works out but even a Jap import TT is very similar to a UK TT and therefore is 'known' to the insurance world. AFAIK NA's were never officially imported into the UK and consequently the value you get from insurance may be reduced. However, it seems to me that all import insurance is going through a difficult phase at the moment, so if you want extra pain and cost get yourself an import - I have one and it is not easy, especially with mods. On the other hand imports are usually cheaper, usually lower mileage and often in better condition than equivalent UK models.

Step back and take a reality check. Ask yourself whether you are the sort of person who aspires to more. If you are then you will probably want a TT in a few months time. When I first got mine I thought it was fast, now I reckon I need 400+bhp just to keep me awake.

Hi,

I must echo Glen's sentiments and say 9K for an NA is a lot of money...I only paid 6K for mine, a year ago( manual with leather)...and with the money saved, spent 2K on exhausts, tyres, alarm, parts and servicing.

You could have bought my car a couple of weeks ago for 6K, with all the major things attended to.Personally I would probably keep looking.

You b*stards have pulled me off my cloud again but i`d be a chump if i didn`t take your advice seriously. You`s guys know. And i have to admit i know sweet FA.I`m actually awaiting proposal results on 2 at mo.The other is the first one i told you`s about on the board a few days ago. That`s £6000 like you`s are saying but it`s 79,000miles and 1990.It`s leather with huge spoiler and a set of awesome alloys on and a private plate. My thoughts have been that these things are going to cost an arm and a ball to repair if you pick up an older one and i suppose i`m hoping to pay the extra for a young 42k 1994 in the hope i`ll have to spend very little on repairs.

I couldn`t buy from anyone privately anyway cos i`ve got to get the dealer to settle my GT with the p/x price he`s giving me for it.

As for NA or TT i thought the NA was pretty rapid.I think if i jump in a TT straight away from my dinky GT i`ll find myself sticking out the window of a 3rd story building within a few days with a pigeon sticking out my mouth.Saying that if either of these 2 where a TT i`d buy it.

SH*T i think i`ll get a fookin push bike...HOLD PRESS HOLD PRESS.....The other one it IS a feeking Turbo.I`ve just looked again at the advert in the autofreeway and it IS a turbo.I never really went into this one in any depth,i haven`t even looked under the bonnet i just threw together a proposal on it to see if my lender would lend to me on a 10 yr old Z.I was put off by the 79K.Whatdya reckon go for the turbo at £6k

One things for sure i`ll be hounding him for a test drive as soon as poss. It`s an automatic though but that`s alright isn`t it?

If you're used to a manual then you'll need to learn how to drive an auto to get the best out of it. That said they are still fun and still effin fast.

Bear in mind that any car you buy now is knocking on a bit, compared with current models, but they are well made and do last well when looked after. Should you buy a fresh import then you will almost certainly have to get a Cat-1 alarm and a UK stereo - expect to part with £400+ for the alarm, but they are required for insurance.

As far as repairs go, if you end up with a bad'un then the cost can be crippling. Get a good'un and you'll be grinning so hard your face'll hurt !

Also, if you get an import that is modded already, then you will likely struggle to get insurance, whether it be for wheels, exhaust, intake or heaven forbid ECU.

From what you've said so far, to me, the NA seems expensive. Take a look through http://www.lightman.co.uk/zclub For Sale section. Although private (mostly) there are usually a few there and may give you some inspiration.

cheers all

Thanks for the plug Geln wink.gif

Nope, still got my NA for sale....had 2 offers so far...which were almost close enough to consider... but inclusive of audio I felt they should have gone a good 500 higher. Ah well, what can ya do eh rolleyes.gif

I love your car Jay (looks wicked), would have liked to seen it in real life b4 it went to a new home smile.gif

Are you going to JAE in Northants mate??

If so I'll see ya there!

Glen

If you are still looking for a 300ZX, then try these people JAPVILLAGE on 01403738960, or on the web www.japvillage.co.uk. I ordered a manual TT, and got a 94 for £10500 with 45K on the clock. The car is due back for the SVA, and at the same time they will be replacing the clutch because it was slipping from Day one, replacing the tyres (jap tyres are not legal for UK), and repainting the spoiler because the paints cracked. All this is included as part of there service. The cars they buy generally are already modified, mine has about 400BHP.

There is a blue one already here in the UK, and they have a red on the way, both are TT, and manual.

But if you can wait you can order one, and this works out cheaper because you pay a deposit, and then when the car is found you pay the cost of the car in Japan, and then when it arrives you pay for the shipping, and VAT, plus a fee on collection to cover the SVA, any paint required, tyres etc. Normally about £700 - £1000. The reason its cheaper is because there is no outlay for them

I'm not sure Glen...I'm certainly seeing if I can get the time off (and fuel money required) to do so. If I manage it...then you'll get to see her before she goes to a new home... though after driving all that way she'd be a bit grubby. lol
