Well, and yesterday. Did passenger side yesterday & it was easy enough but today it was the driver's side...

Very hard work indeed. The hardest bit was getting the new valve started on the threads. One bit of advice is chuck the small rear hose clip with a jubillee clip 'cause it's just too hard a job getting the original back in position.

Another bit of advice is get em done 'cause the car feels more responsive & I mean quite a bit, I was really surprised.

Goo on lads give the Zs a treat.

I was thinking of getting this done.

How much are the valves and what else do you have to get?

Fat Tony; Get 2x pcv valves and the hose which attaches to each one. the hoses are different. I'm sure someone could put you a link on to the Courtesy Nissan page where I ordered them from.

I think all together it's cost about 60 odd quid.

Niceness222; one of mine was stuck shut so it wasn't releasing crank pressure so my rear crank seal was leaking, just nipped & had a look, it's still leaking but hardly at all.

My car feels quicker at low revs now, quite noticably.

There could be loads of Zs out there not running quite as nice as they should but the owners don't know because the cars mega powerful anyway. Mine feels great now.:D :D :D

positive crankcase ventilation valve,

I belive it stops to much pressure building up in the crankcase, when it builds up to high it gets vented via incorrect areas,

syptom can be your dipstick poping out and smokey exhausts under boost.

Mike where can I get them for that price?

Cheers,

F.T.

John Dixon, one of the hoses is a different diameter each end & they're that cheap you might as well get them from Courtesy.

And they have restrictors in them that have to be transferred from the old hoses.

Cheers Mac,

I know that parts are generally cheaper via Courtesy , but are the PCV's much more from Nissan UK?

The reason I ask is that I have to take my car to my mechanic this week to get an oil leak sorted, could part of the problem be the PCV's as at the moment it's a bit of a mystery!

Cheers,

F.T.

It is possible that if your PCV's are blocked then you will have excessive crankcase pressure, so that could contribute to an oil leak, although I would have thought that it would pop the dipstick out first though.

I had my PCV's and hoses changed recently but wasn't aware of these restrictors...

Chances are the guy threw the old hose in the bin complete with restrictors.

What do they do and will this be a problem?

Dunno, but they must be there for a reason. My ones are like small brass cylinders with a 5mm or so hole down the middle.

I have also seen the Aus guys talk about flame arrestors in them ! They tend to look kind of like wire wool, but thick wire - kind of like a kettle anti-scale thing.

Sounds like I may be get flames out the back of the engine then?

Might help acceleration... :D

or I might have a fire...

I think the PCV on mine need doing, but I think one of the hoses is actually split. I am losing a little bit of oil, its not coming out of the exhaust only a little smoke, and its not in the water. But after driving for 15 mins I can smell oil and fresh oil. When I looked at my passenger turbo there is oil on the top of the thing. The only place where it could be coming from is one of the hoses.

Stuart, that sounds like the oil feed for the turbo itself leaking ;) Pain in the arse to fix with the engine in - good job you're taking yours out then really :D

LOL.

Yeah the ball is rolling.

Pistons are being bought.

The new hoses should already come with the restrictors in place.
