Removing Automatic gearbox?

Has any one ever removed a automatic box from a tt zed and managed to do it while rasied on just axle stand's?

how long doe's it take and can i lower it and raise the box back to place using just a trolley jack?

Yes yes and yes!

 

The hardest bit about removing the box on ramps / jacks is the top bolts around the bellhousing are real bitches to get too and the more room you can make there the better .

 

Also the gearbox dip stick need removing to lower the box but it needs releasing then removing as the box starts to move away from the engine.

 

Have done a couple this way but both were out of scrap zeds so been careful with the car was not the priority.

 

However that said the process should take around 3 or 4 hours doing it carefully, do have help though, I did one on my own and buggered a muscle in my back for a fortnight!

 

Wiring to the box is difficult to see so undo all the connectors at the front drivers side by the powersteering resevoir and feed them back to the box as they need to come out intact.

 

The prop and the exhaust need to come off but that is all pretty straight forward. when I did the one out on my own I used a trolley jack to lower the box down and it worked out ok. watch out for the fluid when removing the shaft from the torque convertor gets a bit messy.
