Having finally made the decision to lash out on another set of wheels for my zed, I have becoming really dispondant! vistiting web sites and wheel shops to no avail!

The vast range of styles and finishes is a nightmare, but what has really got me confused is the tyre issue, if any one can help me I will really appreciate it.

The wheels I presently have were fitted in Japan and are deep dish 17" jobs 9" wide rears with 8" fromts wearing 265 x 40x 17" and 235x 45 x 17" I replaced the tyres less than 1000 miles ago and have been very happy with the look and ride.

The rears were previously 255 and the move to 265 made the rear view of them awsome! they actually measure like 10.5" across"

Well here is the rub all the right looking wheels are 18" and come with 265x40x18" tyres ...great...not...... they actually look skinny compared to mine..doh! why would that be? I understand all the aspect ratio bit and the rolling circumfrance etc etc but how can two tyres both quoted as 265 be a different width? actually measured an 18" 265 tyre and it was just under 9" wide when fitted to the wheel.......can anyone help? otherwise a full refurb on mine and stick with the 17" will be the only answer.

as far as im aware the measurment of 265 or whatever the width is, is the width of actual tread on the tyre not the full width of the tyre, mad as a hatter i know but its all strange but true.........

Have the answer today, the tyre / wheel in question that I looked at 265x 35x 18" was fitted with a Fulkan (spelling) tyre, I have it on good authority from a tyre supplier that this is a budget tyre and ALWAYS comes under sized! despite having 265 on the side it measured 240mm in full width so given the slope off at the edge of the tyre it all contributes to a very slim looking 265 tyre!

The tyre guy was able to tell me the make of the tyre I had looked at by my description of it been like it is, and that they often get used when buying a package set as they are cheaper.

Have taken the plunge and ordered the wheels for tomorrow delivery based on the guy reassuring me like 20 times that the Hanook tyres he is supplying with the wheels will measure up as it were. Gulp!!!!

Jeff,

What rear spoiler have you got fitted there?

Make sure u bolt them on properly;)

nice mondeo Jeff :D

The wheels look nice, when you going to put them on the car though?

Will be fitting tomorrow, have a gap in the morning between zeds so will do then, I am also fitted some new disc`s back and front as they will be on show a bit more and the ones I have on have been on several months and never got round to painting the hub area that goes rusty, so fitting some zinc plated one`s.

Will post some pics
