Project 300.....

Evening all,

I have not been a very 'active' member of this forum even though I have frequently visited this forum for the 5 years that I have owned my 300.

So as a kind of introduction, here is my story.

The relationship with my 300 started about 5 years aho when I purchased my 300 (1990, SWB, TT, Manual, Jap Import) from a complete tw*t who ripped me off BIG time. It was a combination of me being naive and him seeing me coming a mile off. You guys have probably heard this story a million times, young bloke, has some money, test drives a TT for the 1st time, cums all over the place and buys the car like an idiot... well that was me.

The car had some problems and I took it to a couple of garages in Bristol that were supposed to be good on 300's. Yeah right !! Short term everything was fine, long term they did more damage than good.

So over the past 3 years my car has been off the road.

I now have it back and to be honest, even though it has had some work done to it, I am still not 100% confident that it has been done correctly.

So, I have some money and I wanna do the right thing. I wanna see my baby restored back to the way that it should be, looking the dogs cahoonas and hopefully being more reliable than my experiences with it up to date have been.

So here is a very high level overview of what my 'Project 300' will be.

1. Take the car to Latz at GPS. Have the running gear checked and sorted out.

2. Fit the #2 bodykit from the ZCentre. Have the car completely re-sprayed and all the rubbers and seals replaced.

3. Have the interior replaced. Leather to replace the upholstery and new seats to replace the standard Nissan sofas.

4. Have some ICE installed. Nice setup , for my listening pleasure rather than for the GTE / XR / SRi boys down Asda car park or scaring old ladies at the corner shop.

5. Enjoy the damn thing. Can you imagine how gutted I have been to own a SWB 300 in metallic black, 17" split rims and not being able to drive it..... not good !

So come on fellas, tell me what you think?

If anyone has any experience with the order of things or things to look out for then let me know. I have sunk a shed load of cash into this car to date and I still think she is worth the investment.

Take it easy !

Dont worry about it mate, it happens to the best of us;)

About 2 months after I got my car it blew the engine and took it back to the place I bought it. Suffice to say its now on its second rebuild!.

One thing I would say is maske sure its spot on mechanically before you do anything else - otherwise you could end up with a really pretty paperweight in your drive which you cant afford to fix.

Oh yeah I almost forgot - fitting different seats is an absolute bollock - you'll almost certainly need to get custom subframes made or else fabricate some adaptor plates (which is what I did)

Yeah, I agree, get it running sweet first and then go to town on her (literally if you like!) You got a fair bit of wonga stashed away then?

Nice spec on the Z tho............pics are in order as you go I think!

Good luck Buzz.

Cheers fellas...

I will keep you guys updated as things progress. The car is in a complete state at the moment but the dawn of a new day will soon arrive.....

Bit of a bitch about the seats though.....

I re-call someone mentioned that a guy they knew would make some custom sub frames for Cobra seats?

Any ideas who he was ?
