I've just got a new headunit that I'm going to try and install. Anything I need to know? Is it a straight forward procedure?

 

It's a single DIN unit and it's going to go in the slot where the stock Radio/Cassette unit is housed. I'm going to replace the stock CD player with something else later (EQ, MP3 player maybe)

ps I have a 1990 UK car, if that makes any difference!!!

You can get a direct converter plug from halfords for about £20, makes the fitting a doddle.

 

Also the ariel is a PITA as it has a 2 pronged plug, again buy a converter from halfords and just use one of the prongs, works a treat.

In what way?

 

Mine is an 1990 J'Spec and i've fitted a Sony CDX-M770 without any problems at all, about the only thing that is a PITA is that you can't fit the surround because of the deep recess on the Zed dash.

Well, it was a doddle to get the units out, but as I suspected the connectors are different!!!!

 

What do I ask for Halfords? Is it a case of I have a Sony headunit and a UK 300ZX and they can supple the correct adaptor, or am I going to have to fanny on and work out which wires are which?

Its just an off the shelf item m8. It's in a blister-pak just says Application = All Nissan, or something like that.

 

Plugs straight in - no problem, took me perhaps 1/2 hr to do the whole job of swapping head units. I think the worse thing was a siezed screw in the side of the old Nissan head unit - odd that!

 

I normally keep details of items bought but i can't find that reciept. :(

Just look for an ISO connector at halfords. From memory it covers loads of Nissan models just look on the packaging. I got mine from MotorWorld and its a Jspec 1989. Planned half a day to fit and took all of 10 mins :D
