Probably a boost upgrade, done cheaply with welding tips, this can cause spikes in the boost though, it is done more reliably with a boost controller! Combined with a JWT chip this will help fuel the car correctly for the boost upgrade!

Make sure you have serviced the car properly though as upgrades have a tendency to reveal any weak points!

You are maybe getting to close to needing an upgraded clutch, with these mods but there is only one way to find out!!

Good Luck

I agree but be prepaired to pay some money.

If you up the boost, you will need a new chip to run is safely. If your clutch is stock it wont last very long. It you have an auto you should be OK but any more than this and you are looking for strenghtend autobox.

If you just want a little more ooph try decatting you down pipes, but this is illegal in 1992+ cars.

I thought there was some controversy over the legality of decatting the downpipes since the cars weren't listed on the official paraphenalia?

Has that been resolved yet?

I dont know.

All I know is for an MOT pre 1992 (Including K Reg) are allowed to remove the Cats if the original spec has them. After them any car who has Cats on when it leaves the factory has to have the cars on by law.

I not heard anything else, but I know loads of people who have taken them off and not failed MOT.

I know there is a visual test to see the cats are there, but thats the good thing about decatting. The pipes look like they have them in.

CATs -

If you take them off / drill them out you'll get less spool up time, if the turbo seals are on the verge of leaking they could start. Most people take them off without any problems, but you have to be prepared! I was luckly, but I bet it's possible things such as the mid and end silencer on my uprated exhaust play a part keeping a little backpressure - you never know???..

If you have a pre-92 and the car is running fine it should pass the mot, if the engine/cats are hot already!

You really should be looking at a chip upgrade (not superchip), before upping the power too much. A few psi shouldn't hurt. More than 15psi and you'll need bigger injectors. There are lots of good chips out there, mine is JWT... works very well.

yes, deffo go for a Chip before fiddling with boost, thats asking for trouble. JWT chips can be had quite cheaply, send me a PM if you want names.

Cat rule is supposed to apply from 01/08/92 so includes all K and onwards.

Also dont we have precats in the bit from the turbo down as well as the cats that people remove in the first sections of the exhaust. I know some drill out the ceramic stuff from the pre cats as well as removing the main cats.

I think the pre-cats is a funny one. If you have a jap spec car you probably have a restrictor fitted in the downpipe rather than a pre-cat. (A piece of metal to restrict the air flow!)

I thought UK cars had em (pre-cats), but some nissan bod was sure we don't. Perhaps it's only US ...and maybe some european countries.

Later years had Precats.

I know DaveW who has an UK M reg Z has precats.
