Which pads for the front do you guys recon I should buy. Was thinking red stuff, what do you think.

Featured Replies

I've not tried redstuffs on my car, but I've tried greenstuffs , which work okay but are wearing down hellish fast:(

if I recall correctly redstuffs are a softer compound - more brakes but even faster wear.

I notice in EBCs new adds they are making a big deal out of the new compounds (v2&v4 I think) lasting twice as long as the old ones - mine are v4's so the old versions must have worn out in about 10 minutes!

had Red stuffs last time.. damn good but didn't last long at all!

Fair bit of fade until they get heated up nicely.. and they take a bit longer than green stuffs... EBC say green stuff *and* red stuff work from cold now, but I still think it takes a fair amount of time for the reds to get to operating temp properly...

Got EBC kevlar (which I assume is black stuff) from Jeff on them at the moment.. not sure how good they really are as my discs need doing now as well...

*tsk*

Red,yellow green stuff should all be renamed SHITSTUFF!

If you want some serious brake pads,go for Porterfield kevlar would never use anything else.

Not tried those... do you have a good supplier, prices?

I paid £130 for my fronts, but am sure DaveW can get them cheaper, even braking hard from 160mph and I dont get fade.

Bit pricey compared to EBC's but I suppose for proper performance... how are they in terms of mileage? average life expectancy?

I had them fitted to my stock calipers, when I changed them for R34 calipers they had covered 14000 miles and were only half worn,Ask ChrisC how long his EBC pads lasted LOL;)

I got mine from http://www.stranoparts.com for a really good price (the amount escapes me at the moment!)

I can't give an opinion on these pads as I still haven't got round to fitting them yet. But, I'll take Mac's word that they are very good

Yeah I wouldnt use red stuff again.

I originally bought green stuff but the wrong pads were in the correctly marked box - they looked like something out of a Fiesta!

Called EBC and they said they would swap them no problem but I should be using red stuff on a big car like a Z so they sent me those instead.

I put them on and found the brakes to be completely useless when cold in the morning - I could hardly stop at the junction at the bottom of my road!

When they warmed up after a couple of miles they were superb, no fade and great stopping power.

2 months later they were down to the metal!

Works out at about £45 a month for pads FFS LOL

They would be great for a track day but for general use they don't last.

I have heard they have changed the compounds since but I won't be trying them again :(

Which Porterfield pads do you guys fit on the front?

R4S - fast road;

R4 - race compound?
