Looking to get my car serviced

Definately cam belts/alternator belts need checking/replacing

Give it a good once over

What exactly does a proper service mean?

What do i get for my money?

Are there different types of service?

How long, do they need my car? A day?

Do they replace things like spark plugs, fuel filters etc as part of service?

This is the only car I have, so not having it causing major hassle (work, kids)

Please recommend a reliable and trustworthy mechanic who knows what they are doing

Thanks for your support:D

I have a shhet here - how sad!

A normal service includes

check drive belts

check brake and clutch fluids

change engine oil

replace oil filter

check steering linkage - include HICAS linkages

check brake and clutch systems for condition and leaks

check brake pads and discs

check tyre condition, dpeth and pressures

check wheel nut torques

check foot brake, parking brake, clutch free play and operation

lubricate all hinges, locks and latches

check wiper blades and washers - top up resevoir

check all lights for operation

road test

There are 2 more levels to the nissan checks if you want to know them.

I'd recommend Jeff at http://www.zedworld.co.uk up near Tamworth (right next to Drayton Manor park), he's really well priced and definitely knows his stuff...

There's another good mechanic down south which I think Vijay has mentioned before, but I can't remember his details...

By the way, you don't happen to have a white ZX and live in/near Leek Wootton do you?!?!?

I spoke to Nissan in Coventry and they have 3 levels of services, they were really helpful... I can pop in and chat to their senior technican anytime, to discuss what I need.

I scribbled down a bit of info, if you've got a full list cool

Andy thanks for the info i can print it off:)

I'm amazed there are no one( so far) who is doing proper services other than Nissan  :(

Who does everybody else use or do you all do it yourselves???

Are you thinking of taking your car to a Nissan Main Dealer?

I assume that you haven't read any of the horror stories about said main dealers on here?

Good luck - you're gonna need it especially if you ask them to do a cambelt change, take out the 2nd mortgage now!

Yes i have read some of the horror stories on here .... remember I've been part of that myself:eek:

I understand where you are coming from, what i need is a reliable mechanic to work on my car.... no one has offered ( yet), so what do i do?

I don't feel confident doing this service myself,

I need someone who can tell me what needs doing, and give my car a proper service

I would rather not have to pay extortinate prices, have you got any better ideas??? , i'm ready and willing to listen

Main Dealers?!?!? run... run like the wind!!!!!

Honestly take the car up to Jeff at Zedworld.. he's very very well priced for the work, and can give your car the attention it deserves really...

he did a great job saving mine, you might have seen from the posts how lucky I was!!!! And that was Jeff salvaging damage caused by Main dealer

Emero got to agree with Nix take it to Jeff , I travel half way across the country for him to work on my car, because i don't trust anyone else , and if you live in Warwick it's just round the corner from you.

As it happens my car is there now and will be picking it up Saturtday , can't wait :D

Literally about 40 mins from you.. me and the missus are likely moving to Hill Wootton soon.. so know whereabouts you are!

someone will have to say something soon....

ROFLMAO!:D

Nix and Bagins, you may need to take a Zed history lesson. ;)

Let's just take it as read them Emero is looking for an alternative mechanic to the mainstream ones that get a mention here.

I could make recomendations but they're all a long way from Warwick.

aha... righty-ho! Will assume there's stuff I don't know and plead ignorance!

Emero, you say you don't feel confident to do it yourself. TBH there is nothing difficult about carrying out the service yourself (although there was that pic of a girl lying under a car trapped by the spoiler... but that's another story).

I wouldn't recommend carrying out a cambelt service yourself unless you are at least mechanically proficient but armed with a workshop manual, a £50 halfords socket set, a trolley jack, axle stands and a couple of screwdrivers you could do all the maintenance yourself, and just think of how much you could save.

Oh, almost forgot you'll need a torque wrench to check your wheel nuts :D

I know it's difficult to find help, i've carried out all the servicing and upgrading on mine other than the cambelt change, for that I enlisted Andy Duff's help, but tbh having now helped do one I wouldn't hesitate to carry out another on my own.

GOOD LUCK - whoever you choose.

Tim

Di - I know the people at Murley Nissan in Warwick (Nelson Road I think, not far from Tescos), the Sales Director there said they'd be confident in servicing mine in the future. They used to be a Toyota dealership and say they had modded MR2s, supras, celicas etc and know their stuff.

No experience with the 300zx as they've only been Nissan for 18 months or so, but their experience with 10-12 year old performance jap cars must be worth something. And it's in Warwick.

I ordered two hoses for my Import (they were Z32 only parts) and they had them in the next day so parts availability isn't bad :)

Just a suggestion :)

Yeah it is called a 25% reduction in the amount of wheels you have LOL :D

Di, gimme a call ;) You still have my number???

CheerZ,

Andy

Yes - three levels of service at Nissan - A-B-C

The first list I gave was for the A service -

This is for B - and includes all of the A service as well

Check Cooling system for condition an dleakes

Check antifreeze strength

Check battery electrolyte and terminals

check and adjust valve clearances

check power steering fluid and lines

check air conditioning hoses and connections

Check cruise control vacuum hoses and connections

Replace Spark Plugs

Check transmission, differential, transfer box for level and leaks

Lubricate grease joints on steering, suspension and propshaft

check body mountings torque

Check wheel alignment

Rotate and balance wheels

Check seat belts, buckles, retractors, anchors and adjusters

Check headlamp alignment

Check exterior bodywork for damage and corrosion

Check exhaust emissions

This is for the C service and includes the A and B items

Change antifreeze

Check fuel system for condition, security and leaks

change brake and clutch fluid

check brake servo vacuum hoses, connections and check valve

Replace air filters

Replace air induction valve filter - dunno what this is

Check exhaust gas sensor

I think the way it used to work was A-B-A-C for the service sequence.

I notice you are in the North East. Anywhere in the area you would recommend for services etc.?

Not really I usually do it all myself, you need to beware of some of the so-called performance experts opening up around here. It seems that every Max Power reader who saw The Fast and the Furious is opening a unit and calling themselves Japanese performance experts.

The only places I would recommend are

http://www.grasshopperprosport.co.uk/

or Andyduff from this forum, both are near Manchester/Wigan, its a couple of hours drive but they work on these cars all the time so your in safe hands.
