I know a lot of people here have new or non-standard Turbo's in their zeds, what I'm trying to find out is;

1. What Turbo's have people gone for

2. Who did the work

3. How much it all costs?

If I'm going to replace my turbo's (and according to Jeff mine are worn so I'm going to have to replace them one day) I want to make sure that a good job is done..

Had the usual suggestions of people like Abbey Motorsport and SE, but as usual turning to my best resource for advice... you lot and your experience! :)

My mechanic suggested that I change mine both to HitachiT28 same specs as GarretT28 but cheaper...

I've not long had mine done...I'll dig the bill out tonight and let you know how much.

Spec wise they are custom roller bearing jobbies built by universal turbos - there usual application is singly on s14's (size wise they're a little bigger than T28's but I dont think they were as big as T3's).

They needed quite a bit of re-engineering but they did go on. I'm well impressed with them - they seem to have plenty of low down power, and keep going strong well over 7000 rpm:D

Ask 300z - think he knows which are best.

Speak to Smithy too as he was dealing in turbos. Then you just need to find a good mechanic to fit them.

Vijay

Hello Mate,

depends on your budget and how much horsepower you want to achieve?

Mark

Well not entirely sure what the goalposts are yet.. just wondering what the ends are... cheapest to highest, and what's most popular really?

Going up in Price you have

Smithys Turbo Dynamics Stage II's most reasonable and good option!

Turbo Technics Stage II's a bit more expensive!

Then Garrett GT25's an excellent turbo lots of boost and easy spool up! £1800ish

PE 1420, about 2K for the complete kit!

And you can just keep going up and up!!!!

With some of the latter turbos to make them work optimally you should have 550 injectors, dual intakes and the appropriate chip, intercoolers etc

Mark

Cool, thanks for the info Mark, will probably go for Smithy's Stage 2's... any idea on prices?

Also reputable people to fit them?

(btw, I was parked next to you at billing last year!)

Hello Lee,

Just spoke to Smithy £500 plus VAT each and that includes delivery.

Vijay

Hello Mate,

Good to hear from you again!!

I think they are in the 1k for the pair bracket, but you would have to talk to Smithy to get a firm price! And whether he is still doing them?

There are a few places that will do the work I personally use Darren in kent he's reasonable and won Nissan mechanic of the year two years running! The only trouble is he busy working on a TT conversion project some crazy but good looking guy has asked him to help out on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Duffman is good as well!!!!!

Cool... so how long does it take? Good price on those turbo's from Smithy, cheers Vijay.

How much does this guy charge for the fitting then?

Guessing it's a fair whack?

Jesus Mark, has he got another one to do now???? you're never gonna get yours finished are you!!! :D :D :D

Lee,

I believe the going price is around the 600 mark for fitting. The only other thing is it's a good time if the timing belt and that sort of thing needs doing.

I can vouch for Darren's work, he did a real nice job fitting my turbos but I must have upset him off at some point cos he never returned phone calls afterwards:( (never ever knew why)

I've got a very good mechanic near me if needed.

Vijay

Excellent... gives me a good idea of how much money I should be looking at which is exactly what I want really!!

As soon as I'm in a position to get it done I'll probably be mailing out for contacts of mechanics etc. again... but now I have idea on prices.

Did he end up getting a restraining order on you? :)

ha ha

Didn't cook his rabbit?

lol, I think he almost did - I only wanted my service book back though:( damn courts!!!!

Hello Vijay,

He does that with everyone mate, I think he has had a few things on of late, but also I think he is inundated with phone calls to work on Z's and probably can't get back to everyone who calls!
