Not *again*!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY ME?!?!?!

Okay.. driving into work this morning.. got to one roundabout in MK, slowed down, sitting in traffic thinking.. hang on this feels a bit rough.. glanced at all guages.. all okay, oil pressure a bit on the low side, but that gauge is about as useful as a chocolate fireguard.. idle however is down to about 500/600 and getting a lot of lumpy shake on the car.

My exhaust is blowing a bit at the moment, so quickly turned off radio, popped window down and that's serving to make the "chug chug" sound of the engine all the more prominent. Still sitting in traffic a distinctly oily smell has accompanied the problem..

chugged into work (literally) not getting much power out of the engine at all... application of the accelerator (not flooring it, didn't want to cause too much damage if its *that* kind of problem)... that little red light (excuse my total ignorance here but my owners manual is at home!!!) on the left hand side of the dash up in the main instrument panel.. picture of a pipe with a few wavy lines over the top of it comes on... lifting off and it goes away again.

Popped the bonnet up... car sounds lumpy as hell, but engine looks smooth no visible shaking from the engine (unlike before when my timing belt went!!). Little bit of smoky vapour coming up from the back of the engine though.. again, oily smell in the air.

It's had a long run this morning, about 2 hours drive.. so left it to cool now, and trying to get hold of Jeff @ Zedworld to see if I can get it up there....

so guys, advice/opinions.... do I face what I suspect in that the oil seals on one/both of my turbo's have gone?!? My limited knowledge of zeds is screaming this is the case!! :(

Why me?!?!? I've only just got it back....*sniff*

missfire mate.

The light that came on is the cat overheating light which is probably due to the fuel not being burnt in one of the cylinders and igniting in the cat.

Have engine ticking over and pull the coil pack connectors one by one. When you remove one the engine should slow down and become more lumpy, possibly even stop. If you pull a connector and it makes no difference there's your culprit.

Possibly could be the ptu aswell, i had one that did exactly that.

HTH

So unlikely turbo?

Is that going to explain loss of power as well then?

if I find the fault coil pack, what do I do with it? Is it safe to limp up to zedworld in it? allbeit slowly?

If you find a nackered coil just replace it, in my opinion theres nothing wrong with a 2nd hand coil and AndyZ quoted me £12 for one!

Just undo the 2 bolts, take out old one and whop in!

You might find its just a connector to a solenoid has come undone slightly as they are very brittle in there old age.

If they are all connected fine just try going round disconnecting one by one, remember if you pull one and it makes no difference thats the dodgy one!

It will explain the loss of power as you're be running on 5 cylinders not 6!

And i really wouldnt of thought those syptoms are anything to do with a turbo.

Cheers mate..

you know what, I'm going to give up making posts until I've actually thoroughly rooted around the engine bay... :)

Feel like such a donut now because I've found one of the coils connectors was almost all the way out.. pushed it back in.. car runs absolutely fine.. just a slightly loose connector, it's all snug now!!

Argh... I'll keep a low profile :)

:) Wow for once my advice was actually right!

Well.. first time I've actually managed to fix something on the zed myself :)
