Before i start destroying my car

How do i get to the front speakers so i can change them

Is it easy to take the door inserts off?

Featured Replies

Open the window and you will see a black circular cap on the door B-Pillar but out side the car. Take off the cap and unscrew the screw under it.

Back inside the car pull off the B-Pillar pane which is on the doorl. Its clipped on at the bottom just pull and it will come off

Under there you will see 2 big screws, take them off.

Open the door and there are 2 screws on the panel near the hinge and 2 or 3 along the bottom of the door panel and 1 or 2 (1 I think) near the door lock. Take them all out.

Check round the edge incase there are any screws you forgot to notice or I forget to mention.

Get something to put between the door and door panel at the bottom of the door and pull out the clips. I think there are 3 along the bottom. You may have to goto Nissan and get some more clips.

With the door unclipped and unscrewed, lean the bottom of it outwards slightly and push it up.

And its off.

Everything else about how to get to the speaker is easy now.

Hope this helps

All this is for the UK Z which doesnt have the seat belt attached to it. Maybe slightly different for the Jap Z which has the belt on the door, but I think it should be the same.

Just a couple of extra pointers:

Wind your window down before you start!!

You'll need to unclip the leccy window bits too: Just a plug basically.

You can just pop the insert on the [inside] door handle off with a bit of pressure (it just clips on) - lock the door and hold the handle open to do this more easily.

The passenger side needs the inside handle (the thing you pull to close the door from inside) taking off too - use a small screwdriver to prise off the two rubber wotsits, and the screws are there.

On the driver's side there are also two screws in the hande - in the little coin holder thing by the leccy window switches. It's "carpeted" but you can lift the carpet up on either side to reveal the screws.

When you're taking the top (first) screw out, be VERY CAREFUL! Preferably use a socket set or a magnetic screwdriver, as the screw has a tendency to fall down into the darkest recesses of the door, causing all sorts of swearing.

You can bypass all of this stuff by checking the links from AndyP's http://www.300zx.org.uk site. Someone on twinturbo.net has written a fine FAQ about taking door panels off.

Good luck!

Russ.

Thanks people!

Took the door insert off My Jap import...sounds about the same process and didn't take too long but is a bit fiddly.

Putting it back on is the fun bit :D

erm how much fun?

When i changed my air filters to K and N, the 2 inner nuts to the bolts fell out of there holder and that then became alot of fun!

Does anyone know whats size speakers are in the front?

6" i think are standard though I stuck 6.5s into mine with a few judicial drill-holes in the brackets. No need to change the grilles.

As much fun as you can get wrestling tiny little nuts in the dark with nothing but greased up fingers and an pocket torch...er....;)

Sounds great
