What is the difference between the jap engine and the uk engine as regards engine turbos and ecu's and output power and performance?

I have a jap import zx300 tt and each time i give it a boot a red light comes on then a massive power loss followed by constant misfires. What dose the red warning light mean. What can be done to keep it off i never WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN .

Finally my car is not fitted with cruise control could i get donor parts from a scrap 300zx tt and fit it directly to my car ?

what would be be involved what is the best way to go about it ?

thanks nigel

Hello Nigel,

Raz's car did that and all we did was clean up all the connectors. I think it was his PTU that was causing his problem. I think the light you might be talking about is your cat light.

Where abouts in London are you?

Vijay

I'm in NW London, near Brent X. If you need a hand let me know. I would certainly start by cleaning all the connectors with contact cleaner.

Hi Nigel

Regarding cruise control, mine's also without that option and when I examined the dash board lights, there were no bulbs in the spaces for the two cruise lights or any wiring to power the bulbs. Whether or not the rest of the wiring is present, I've no idea.

Hi peeps, fitting cruise control can be a bit of a pig.

Do you really think you need it ?. I had this on my old 7 series and only used it a few times, Iknow for a fact that on my 300zx TT I would never even switch it on.

Does anyone else with cruise control actually use it ?.

This is a drivers car, lets drive it how it wants to be driven ;) (unless you see speed cameras or the police of course LOL).

Yeah I have cruise control and yeah I do use it - its pretty good for keeping the mpg up on long journeys - typically get about 3mpg extra....

The cat overheat light - that is coming on because unburnt fuel is entering the cats and heating them up. Unburnt fuel points to lack of spark. Check the connectors on the PTU and also on each of the coilpacks.

As far as differences go - I think only the ecu is different as it is mapped for different octane ratings.

I, use the cruise control a great deal I love it - but I do a lot of motorway miles, typically the M25, so cruise control, auto box, climate control and CD player make the journey tolerable.

Yep,

I've used cruise control a few times on the motorway , unfortunately it's never clear enough to leave it on for long.

You always get some inconsiderate types who make me have to use my brakes!!

Cheers,

F.T.

Hi Vijay

Yeah pretty local, Stanmore (Harrow). When I get my car running properly it would be good to meet up!

Yep, that would be cool. Should hopefully have my car back mext week:) :)

Vijay

Yeah I use the cruise control sometimes, on the A1(m) up and down to NW London - when it's clear - and I don't feel like bombing it.

I have used it on motorways for long distance - if set at 65mph you can surely go for a long time. And that's really showing off! 'Cause when you've got a supercar you know you can really beat the ass off most things anyway.

But most of the time I can't resist bombing it.

I'd retain the cruise control.

Geoff.
