Most proably the CAT temp warning light. Did it have 3 wavy lines on it? I never seen it just descriptions, but its most probably that.

Means yout CATs where getting too hot.

Stuart

yeah it did have 3 wavy lines on it ,thats what i thought it was, cheers mate, gives me an excuse to get my zorst done, and de catted, any body know of any good systems, i got around £650 spare..:D

A lot of people go for the Mongoose exhaust, it looks good and its a reasonable price, and makes a nice noise.

Personally some can make too much noise but the Mongoose when decatted sounds good.

This is what the pipes look like.

ROFLMAO!

Stuart, you are just so proud of your exhaust polishing skills aren't you? Wanna come do mine? Fernar fernar!

Tim :D

You havent seen my latest way of cleaning the exhausts!!!!!!!

A BOG BRUSH!

Yes!

It fits perfectly and gets all the crap out very very well.

Listen I have to get some pride out of sitting on the end drive shoving a bog brush up my tailpipe ( Oooo Errrr ;) ) and showing them off is my way of getting a little but of dignity back. ;)

I think I need more pride! Yes I do so here again ;)

If the CAT temp light lit up at 140 it may have had a reason.

The times when the CAT temp light has lit up in my Z was when one of the coil pack leads became disconnected and I was running on 5 cylinders! As I going well over 100 I wouldnt have known I was running on 5 until I'd slowed down and felt the difference!

The Coil Pack lead would become loose if the engine shifted under heavy acceleration(downshift/kickdown).

Yes that could have been why it was hot. The misfire causes fuel to go through the exhaust and burn on the cats.

Stuart

I've had that happen too!! Then the fuel ignites in your cats...

on the same journey I ended up on 4 cylinders, and when that happened I saw some glowing bits of ceramic being chucked out the back of the zorst

Took it easy the rest of the journey - lot of backfiring - and limped up to Jeff at Zedworld. He soon pointed out what the problem was.

Anybody have any ideas how to stop them slipping out?

thanks for the advice boys but is it easy to check the coil pack?? and how. cheers.

Hi,

Beware when de-catting an NA, that it can make your exhausts sound VERY loud!...especially when combined with a stainless steel big bore exhaust system. You may also get an unwanted resonance at certain revs too.

My NA used to set off car alarms all over town!.:D They do say that decatting an NA reduces the performance and response at lower speeds, although I never noticed a difference. But it does improve the breathing and response at higher speeds/revolutions.

The coil packs are the connections on top of where the spark plugs are located, over time the clips an break leaving the connections loose.

With regards to de-catting an NA, I thought the loss of back pressure with the CATs removed can harm performance. Proper De-cat pipes have to be fitted instead of just drilling and knocking out the CAT material.

hi sedgeworth,

I have a 2+0 na aswell recently gutted the cats and found better mid-top end power definatly noticable I also have a stainless steel backboxes and yes its fairly loud but managable in my opinion! although under full throttle it is pretty loud

Half of my coil connectors are broken, is it worth me replacing them and does that mean a whole new loom? How hard is that to fit??

If you need to replace them, you can get the parts from Courtesy Nissan:

But they only sell the connectors in sets of 4! So you need 2 sets I believe. I'm not sure how you splice them or how they fit, I'm sure someone may know :)

Hi,

Try this site for decat pipes and also rear silencers suitable for NA's... Z Centre/Exhausts .

I had the scarab exhausts but they were only available in the larger bore size for TT cars, at the time.

JEZ
