Obviously this is something to do with stalling! But what is it, and how does it work and what is its' primary function?

Do yo mean the stall rate on the torque convertor?

If so, in simple terms, It's the rate (amount of revs) that you can rev to (with your foot on the brake!) before the car stalls. Some Zedsters upgrade their torque convertor (when having an auto rebuild) with one that has a higher stall rate. Helps for quicker get-aways, 1/4 mile times etc.

Sounds like this could tie up in some way with the launch control on the traction control system.

Could work in theory. Not on a stock converter though. You would need a converter with a pretty high stall rate before the launch control would cut in.
