Hello there, Ive travelled across from the Nissan Primera Owners Club looking for a bit of help......

A friend of mine has wangled his way into having a UK spec 300ZX for the weekend for a test drive.... anyway, he took it to a friend of his who started beating one off when he saw that at the end of the VIN Plate it had written 32R... or R32, according to him, its a special edition 300zx with the Skyline engine fitted and he should bite the salesmans hand off to buy it....

Does anyone know if he is correct about the Special Model.... or is he talking poo

or does anyone know where I can find out if it is indeed true.

Thanks for any help you can provide.....

and feel free to come see us on our site (we have a section devoted to the 300ZX)

Hmmmm.

I know nothing of a 300ZX with a Skyline engine.

Z32 is the 300ZX chassis number.

Is it a UK Z or Jap? What reg?

Stuart

He says its a UK spec car (like I mentioned in the first post) but I'll find out the rest of the details tomorrow when I see him... He asked me if i knew cos Im a Primera owner.... he seems to think that they are both the same...... I WISh !!!!....lol

David,

See this link: http://www.300zx.co.uk/cgi-bin/manual.cgi?list=gi&dir=&config=&refresh=&direction=forward&scale=0&cycle=off&slide=18&design=default&total=25

I think your mate is mis-quoting the Z32.

The 300ZX is a V6 and very compact in the engine bay. This gives our cars a shorter length 'nose' than many other cars. You will see that the Skyline has a longer bonnet and this caters for their straight-6 engines to be fitted. I suspect it is not possible to fit a Skyline engine into a 300ZX/Fairlady.

Geoff

[i should add that the R32 was the 'first real' Skyline - straight-6 - many consider this early model the best].

You should be able to tell by looking at the engine which one it is.

If its a V6 is bullplop about having a Skyline engine in. If its got the Inline 6 engine in, its not put in by Nissan. And to be truthful the V6 engine has more potential than the R32 engine, and a Skyline engine is pointless in a Z with out the 4WD system.

Stuart

cheers for your help guys.... I had a look at that link with the ID info on and it seems like the guy is talking poo.

I phoned my mate who checked for me and the car is a V6 twin turbo according to the VIN.

Now he has to decide whether £3000 is a good price for it....

one little thing he has noticed is that the oil pressure guage hardly moves (show pressure) but the sender has been changed according to the owner

Hmmmm.

IF the oil pressure sender has been changed (£80 for the part, so ask for proof if he can) the oil pressure dial is quite good. If it hasnt been changed, the senders do tend to go. Mine read the higer pressures well but as soon as the pressure dropped to about 40-50psi the dial would drop to 0 because of the bad sender.

Check the oil level with the dip stick. locaded near the battry, also check the history to find regular oil changes.

Start the engine but make sure the engine is cold to see if any smoke comes out. White OK, black could be running rich, blue/purple run away.

Where abouts is this car?

Stuart

the car is in South Wales.... Its come up for sale from a guy that imports Jap cars and managed to get his hands on this UK model, he says he's had it for a while and was gonna put it in the auctions if he couldnt sell it... the bodyworks a bit of a mess though...

another thing he says is that it looks like the VIN plate is upside down.... is this normal ???

No the VIN place is the right way up if you look from the front of the car.

If this happened it is unlikely this happened to just 1 Z and would have effected a few.

It sounds like the VIN plate has been taken off at some time and then some one didnt have the nogin to put it back on the right way round.

The car sounds a little cheap to me, and the body work will go down hill fast if its not sorted soon and the work is done well.

Just as a point of interest. Nissan did make a Z with a Skyline engine. but it was the older Japanese market Z31 model in 1986 to 1989:

Using the RB20DET it developed 180Bhp according to Nissan.

ChrisC I think this is picture you were after:

Z32 300ZX fitted with a RB26 GTR engine.

Ahhhhhrrr, so it is possible to shoe-horn a Skyline engine in!! Interesting solution to the radiator positioning. Are those Mazda MX indicators?

I wonder what the weight difference is? Anybody fitted a Rover V8?

Why where is the Rad?

It is possible but I think its more work than its worth.

I have seen a Z with a Supra engine in too. Apparently there was alot of modding needed to get it in.
