I have only had the Z for about a 4 days and on the first £30 pounds it gave me 140 miles on Optimax rurally. Is that about average. The car has got an after market exhaust amd thats the only engine mod apart from the BOV's but they shouldnt affect consumtion.

What are people getting on average.

40 miles to £10, except the past 2 days cause I've just fixed Z & am still playing lol - 25miles to £10

sounds about right - i can stretch it to about 160-170 miles if i drive sensible - more again on a motorway cruise

Yep that is about right.

You will get more on a longer trip on faster roads.

Stuart

Approx 300miles to £50, which is about £10 to 60 miles in your langauge or 21mpg in mine.

Well im pretty pleased with that i was expecting dire consumption.

Im using optimax is this the best option or can i run on normal 95 octane as mine has not really been modded.

UK or J'spec?

UK on 95 RON will be fine, J'Spec prefer Super or Optimax.

Tim

50 quid of optimax lasted about 240 - 250 miles yesterday

fast motorway and thrashing on A/B roads - great fun :D :D

I used 95 in my J'Spec for over a year, the only thing I did notice was some detting at WOT, it's only since fitting my upgraded ECU that I insist on Super or Optimax, car definatly runs better on higher grade fuel.

Minimal difference in MPG between either fuel.

Tim

Mine is a Jap spec car with minimal mods so it probably will run on 95 octane, but will this be a problem in the long run.

Will you get more miles to a tenner on 95 ron or on a tenner of optimax.

I got slightly more MPG on Optimax and in with the extra miles I get out if it, it makes worth while paying the extra 2-3p alitre more.

Stuart

Filled up with Super U for the first time on Friday, has given me 250 miles so far, (including racing a new STI this morning, he was faster to 120, but I got the moral victory, my car cost less than his and I got a suntan while doing it) and I expect another 10-15 miles. Never got more than 230 per tank of Optimax however I drove. Very smoooooth as well it was.

HMMM i only get about 60 miles out of twenty quid and have been using optimax, what would happen if i used ordinary unleaded, would the engine not run right or suffer damage?? is this lower consumption due to jwt chip ???

It varies... mine shifts a lot if I drive with the A/c on a lot (obviously). Mine's 1990 J'spec Auto, only ever put optimax on it, usually I'll get about 210-220 miles out of a tank, (which is about 65 litres I think?!?) and on good well behaved long motorway runs I'll get up to about 300-320.

Heard some people get *very* good results out of putting additives in the tank as well?

well I get about 120 miles out of £20 of unleaded driving it to work and back every day - a mixture of country roads and motorway and traffic jams. I get the same with Optimax as well but it does run better.

Best I had out of a tankfull was 375 miles on a trip to Luton and back - all M6 motorway. Most impressive. Wasnt dawdling either - 80mph all the way.

i am deeply concerned about my mpg now ive read these, jesus wept:( :( :( :(

Do additives really work and do they better your fuel consumption. By additive do you mean octane booster or just fuel cleaner.

i have a saxo vtr with sealed carbon fibre indution kit, full exhaust system, power boost valve and a dastek unichip with all that i get on a good day 170 miles to £20 and thats with mixed driving e.g thrashing the tits off it,lots of urban, and a fair few motorway mile get about 300 to a full tank,so christ the fuel consumption is alot better than what i thought it would bee on a 300 zx

mines an NA manual, do about 10 miles to work and back a day and about 20 miles of mixed driving on the w/end, get about 21 mpg from last 3 fills

This may not sound nice but i have observed of late the 300 zx seems to be attracting saxo owners ???

Hi,

I just posted a similar message on another thread but this thread is more appropriate:

Were am i going wrong with my 160 per tank (jap auto NA) - using super plus (did not spot any difference when running a few tanks of optimax...) i use 5 days a week to work 10miles - low speeds 10-50mph and 3 trips of about 20miles - pushing it resonably hard - milton keynes has a lot of roundabouts, so keeping a reasonable speed then slowing down again, over and over again...

Is it likely i have something wrong with the car?? What could it be, it seems a good runner, i have a little problem sometimes with the idling varying slightly but usually settles down to 750 ish after a short while...

I probably have a gear box mounting on the way out because at 40mph i get some vibrations...

These minor probs are unlikely to cause a problem?

Do i need it tuning perhaps??

Any thoughts anyone?

Barry

That sounds low MPG but dont think you should expect too much. Try to work out your MPG by filling it, driving till close to empty and the filling it up and work out your MPG by using your milage and the amount needed to fill it up.

I must say that the 10 mile drive the car will hardly be warm and will be over fueling to warm it up. Plus the slowing down and speeding up constently wont help.

A tune up wont hurt really it may improve things

The vibration is more than likely be your prop-shaft centre bearing.

that's about 20p/mile. A lot when u think of it like that. At 60mph, you would be spending about 20p/minute !! £18/hour - ie. a LOT more than most of us earn  :(

Nelson, you need to get a better job mate, and stop working for those rip-off petroleum companies ! :D lol
