I've wanted to own a 300zx TT for a very long time now, but family situation has meant the need for a more praticle car (well kind of)

 

Now the wife has learned to drive she can take the praticle route and I can have some fun.

 

2 Questions that Im worried about are (I would be looking at getting a 2+2):

 

1. Costs : I currently drive a 91 Bmw 535is so Im used to higher than average bills, but Im interested to know how it will compare. In regards to fuel ecomony I get 22mpg on a long (100mile) Motorway run, and about 17mpg around town. Parts and servicing costs are more than your average car but not too bad (I stay clear from Dealers).

 

2. Interior Space : I've yet to drive a 300zx , but im 6ft2" should I expect any headroom problems ? Also, with a 2 year old daugher I need to be able to fit her in the back in a child seat sometimes. With the 300zx rear bucket seats and lack of interior leg room, does anyone have experience with this ? Luggage space : Able to fit a foldup pushchair and the weekly family shop in ?

Welcome to the forum.

Well as you know your on the right road to getting a 300zx.

MPG is comparable if not better - depends how hard you drive it.

Space wise its really practical for a 2+2. Even at 6'2 youll have enough leg room - head room should be alright - really depends on the upper body height.

Baby seats - I've got no idea on - will probably depend on seatbelt type and shape of chair. But you could always use it in the front.

The boot is generous as far as a coupe goes. I've loaded tons of stuff in the back without a problem - it will certainly take a weekly shop.

I'm 6ft 3 and 20 stone and seem to fit in to a 90TT2+2 OK. Whats more I've had both a 2 and 4 year old in the back seats.

 

Hmm - Perhaps I should clarify that comment. They were in the back for a journey, not anything illegal... Plus, my ex-girlfriend (whose kids they were) was present at the time sitting in the front.

 

Anyway, The 2year old was OK with a baby seat, the 4 year old was on a booster chair that fit over the hollowed out section of the rear seat, he had to sit behind the passenger to give him some leg room, but the 2yr old fortunately didn't have legs long enough that she needed any room.

 

I think had they been 6 and 4 it would have been a different story and they probably wouldn't have been comfortable...

 

On a different note - once gave a lift to three girls in the back seat on the way home from the pub, there were legs everywhere !! :) I'm not quite sure whose upper thighs and G string I was admiring in the mirror, but I wish I had a camera with me....

1) On a long run I get about 25-27mpg and round town 17-19mpg. So I dont think you will be in shock when you get a Z. ;)

 

2) One of the design specifications was that it could fit a golf bag in the boot, and a buggy is about the same size as that, so no problems there. As for the shopping, I dont think many of us do their shopping in the Z, but I think you can fit enough bags in there. If you are struggling put bags onto of eachother just make sure you dont put your tins ontop of your eggs or bread ;)

Hi David, I was driving family's '91 520bmw for about 3 months before I got my '92 manual TT 2+2.

There's not much difference to the petrol bills.

I'm 2inch shorter than you and my hair stays in shape even my t-roof open cruising at 120km/h.. :D Well, seats r low in the Zed where seats are high on the beemer.. with your height you'll see just fine to the tip front of your car. No worries for headroom unless you keep an afro 60's or a spiky punk hairdo...

As for your lil' gal on the back seat she'll do just fine, as no passenger had complained about space at back.. (it's rare to get 6ft2" asian tho'):D

As for shopping, I'd rather use the family's Mondeo or my brother's Civic... but no worries for lack of space in the boot, my luggage stil fits even with subwoofer and amp taking up space.. (had not try a foldup pushchair tho')
