Been searching the posts about cleaning my exhausts

1. autosol

2. Auto glym metal cleaner

is one better than the other, or does it not matter.

Can I buy them at halfords?

will this stuff burn me hands?

Since I've cleaned and polished me zed I can see all the bleeding scratches now:(

I have a very small dent in my windscreen, looks like a stone chip, do i need to be worried?

Featured Replies

you can probably get the chip in your windscreen fixed for free. If your windscreen is covered on your insurance, you can normally bring your car to the people that they would send you to and they will fix it for free.

Vijay

It takes a long time to clean the pipes. It took me 2 hours to get it like this

But its worth it.

I cant really tell you what I used, because i ran out of so many different things. It ranged from paint stripper, to Autoglym tar remover, to metal poish and Autoglym Paint Renovator (Their T-Cut)

Its worth it in the end. Every one thought I bought a new exhaust. :D

And once its clean, just wipe the pipes with a cloth and its clean again.

Stuart

Can't beat anusol for shiny outlets.

autoglym and wirewool, I use that to shine up my MG's bumpers when cleaning and it only takes a few minutes,

come out like that,

There is a little difference between a bumper with road dirt and exhaust with baked on soot, oil and fuel. It will take a little longer than the bumper ne thinks :D. But same principle.

thanks for the help guys:D

What's the best way to actually clean them?:o

me getting under me zed, ?? HELP

This sounds like a good photo opportunity LOL

I cleaned mine with Autosol Chrome/metal polish.

Looked fantastic for about a week.

Depending on how disgusting your exhausts are (! !) I would reccommend using Autosol (white paste in a gold/black tube) with one of those 'non-scratch' pan scourers. That should get most of the lumps of baked on stuff off. Then get some thin cardboard (preferably corrugated) and go over it again.

Clean it all off with a clean cloth and you should be able to do you 'lippy' in the reflection:D

Don't use those green pan scourers - they're more scratchy than a scratchy thing ! Use wire wool, it's much kinder to chrome, s/steel etc.

Actually, the exhast pumps out onto the bumper and gets it very sooty, 37 year old chrome as well is very pitted :) its a bit crap at the moment, ill take before and after pictures at the weekend when i clean it :)

and I bet you I have more oil and soot coming out of my MG exhaust than 10 zeds lol ;)

What does he do with the trimmings from his old hair-cut? And does he have a selection of hair-cuts on polystyrene heads that he can choose from day to day. Who is this guy....Lillie Savage?:D :)

Nah - he looks very much like diedri raschid now :D:D:D

To get back on track, I use Comma Alloy wheel cleaner, comes with two brushes and sponge.

I have used most of the others over the years, but local Parts shop had this on offer so tried it.

Great, honest, just spray on wheels, exhaust, etc. quick scrub with brush and rinse off. Shiny wheels or exhaust.

Best yet.

The only down side is it smells horrible and is a bit pricey at about £9.00.

Give the wheels a quick squirt before putting through car wash, gets wheels clean at same time and saves scrubbing afterwards.
