Good news:

Went to Santa Pod today to test times with the new intake - got best time yet of 14.204s @ 100.91mph - woohoo! :D

Bad news:

Had a water leak straight after my only run, which slowed when the car cooled down. Looked like the hose going through the firewall to the heater matrix had a fine pinhole puncture. So when the time came to go I set off cautiously, but 2 miles down the road steam everywhere and water all over the road  Luckily I did manage to pull over and cut the engine before *all* the water flowed out, the remaining water came out while engine off.

Phoned the AA who arrived in 20 mins :) and found the offending hose, now with 1 inch long split in it. He didn't have any replacement hoses, with 90deg bend in so patched the hole up temporarily and filled the rad up with water (I questioned about the lack of coolant but he said it was fine to get home).

Anyway, car started fine no steam, set off again and a mile down the road the temp gauge is at max :( . No more leaking water so I don't know whats going on  . Pulled over immediately.

The upshot of which is that the poor zed went back to Daventry on the back of a flatbed truck and is now waiting in a garage in Dav to be mended/diagnosed.

Anyone shed any light on the overheating? My thoughts are that the refilling of the water system has created airpockets, so I've asked the garage to flush the cooling system completely and change the mended hose. Would airpockets cause high temp readings? The car starts ok, which I only did to get on and off the truck.

Good news was pretty shitty compared to the bad news eh!

Thanks for your help

Pete

The AA bloke used some sort of black plasticky tape, wrapped round and round. I'm a bit worried that the coolant will empty itself if i just pull it off with no replacement to hand. Or would it be ok. Could plug it with a wine stopper ;)

But good plan about Autoworld, top guy there! Needs to shave more, bit like me :D

Cheers

Pete

hi ya pete, bad news eh,listen i saw the pipe which split, its only bout £18 pound from nissan if i recall when my mates went, not long after replacing it though the one next to it went aswell,so if i was u id replace both of them at the same time, sooner rather than later, also while ur at it y not get some samcos like mine n jazz up the engine bay as well as piece of mind.Good luck fella i dont think its head trouble,my over flow tank had a brown stain on the dip stick too.

Better grow some skin on ya knuckles i think ha ha..

Hello mate,

Sorry to hear about your water probs.

I was behind you on the way out of Santa pod, I diddnt see you run though, I diddnt get there till 12.30iah so I probably missed you.

I did come over to where you were, there was yours and a yellow 300zx if I am not mistaken. There was a white one further down but I wasnt sure why he wasnt parked up with you guys.

R u going down on the 30th for the next RWYB?

I am hoping to get my car back by then so I can give mine a run.

With about 370bhp, whaddaya reckon my chances are of not embarrasing myself??

;)

LOL Thanks bud, was just gonna Pm you, have you registered :D ;) . It was actually the *other hose* which went but see what you mean about doing both, good idea I'll do that. I had nearly budgeted for HG work so could get Samcos instead LOL, nah might leave it til its tip-top again (then I can break it!). Though red would look nice...

Did you run in the end?

Pete

Yep that was me, the yellow one belonged to a bloke not on the forum, he had an annoying problem - his bonnet release cable had stretched/broken and couldn't open his bonnet! Said it'd been like that for a while.

Would like to be there on 30th but will see how things go with repairing the zed. Dont wont to push it :)

370BHP  don't think I'd keep up LOL! I'd certainly try though!

Woohoo! Zed's running fine :D! Got the 2 heater hoses replaced at the weekend. ConZult diagnostic came up showing all is good :D Big Thanks to Jeff @ Zedworld for the work, time, chat, teas and sunny day!

Think I was lucky I stopped so soon after the temp gauge shot up :)

Had a great blast on the way home trying to keep up with TonyC :D LOL!
