I now have the heater matrix article that explains why not to earth the matrix, in PDF format. Two issues:

 

How can I eMail to AndyP and Grant or in fact anyone? Since I need to attach the PDF, the eMail To feature doesn't cut it unless I've missed something

 

Better still, how can I make it more readily avialble to all and sundry. I can't work out how (if it is possible??) to include a PFD in a message

can you add it to your rides?

Don't have rides yet since my one attempt (months and months ago) at subscribing/submiting dosh did not meet with much success. Now when I try to reget the long lost details of how to subscribe so that i can try again the link never works. I always get a server unavailable message.

Not had time to read it yet. Also had to frigg the file name. Just delete the .txt extenstion, it's actually a PDF

That article makes a lots of sense and could explain why we have heard of a lot of Z's suffering from matrix failure.

 

I did have the electric rad fan taken out and replaced due to a failure and Jeffs explanation about the battery lead is also mentioned.

 

What we need now is to find a decent workshop that understands how to do voltage tests on your coolant as explained in the article.

 

The cost of performing the test would be worthwhile when compared to the cost and inconvenience of heater matrix failure.

 

Any suggestions guys? JeffTT?

Well I understand how to do the test and I will be testing mine, probably on Friday. It will be interesting to compare the results between mine and yours.

Just tested mine and got 0.19v, or more or less twice what is recomended as 'safe' in the article. To my knowledge my car has never had a matrix replaced and certainly hasn't in the 4.5 years I've had it.

 

Really interested in seeing the results of someone who has had the problem, especially a 'repeat offender' !

Did you do the test while the starter motor was cranking. This tends to be the killer.

 

I also tend to have approx 0.2 volts normally and have not lost a matrix for 3 years. As a recall when the garage originally found the problem originally they saw voltages well above this.

Nope - didn't have enough hands - will have to find an assistant !
