Does anyone have any pictures of a 98 model 300zx TT ? Also, how did they differ from the 90+ models (both in terms of mechanics and body design)?

Howdy,

On the SE open day some gentleman decided to turn up in a 98 2 seater turbo Z slicktop with 4k on the clock.

All I could spot was the electronic Hicas as apposed to us early boys with hydraulic hicas.

This car was in mint condition, you could eat your dinner off the under side if required it was shiny.

Plus when it started up it sounded smooth no odd sounds just quiet and happly purred away.

Hardly no difference at all, mechanically I think that after '91 there may have been something different with the variable valve timing...could be wrong!

Also the HICAS on the 90-91 models was mechanical and on later models it was electronically controlled...again, could be wrong but that's what I am lead to believe.

Also, interior on the earlier cars was a nastey carpet effect, which is what I've got! It changed to leathery type plasticy effect on later cars.

Apart from that, not alot else is different.

Hi,

Go to the Nissan Japan Site, where you will find pictures and specs. of the final Fairlady's : http://www.nissan.co.jp/FAIRLADY/index.html

It helps if you can read Japanese though! wink.gif

Although the pictures are cool cool.gif

I have a Jap brochure for the latest model (Friend of mine currently lives in Tokyo). Cracking pictures on thick glossy paper, plus I also have the Skylark and NSX. I vaguely remember scanning bits of it for someone, I can post the pics somewhere is anyone is interested.

Later cars had the variable valve timing removed due to emissions, thus less power.

From 1997 they have some major changes, this info is taken from the book "Datsun 280 Nissan 300 ZX" by Brian Long.

The model codes are:

KRGZ32JHT - Non turbo 2+2 1997 -

KRGZ32JSHT - Twin turbo 2+2 1997 -

Exterior changed as you can see below. The new high powered headlights were standard on the Twin turbo. The interior had some changes also.

The two major changes were the thickness of the floor panels and structural members were increased, the version R got a large central crossmember. The door locking mechanism from the convertible was added to all models to futher strengthen the body. The 2+2's also had steering member bracket and support stay added from the convertible.

The Master brake cylinder, servo and brake pad material were improved to reduce braking effort and the suspension was tuned to give a "sportier" ride. The idea behind all this was to improve the crashworthiness and braking capabilities. I think the engine remained the same including the NVCS (Nissan Valve Timing COntrol System), but I'm not sure due to what the US says.

I hope this helps, if you can get prices of 1997 models onwards I would be interested to hear what they go for.

Thanks,

Trev.

Mmmm, that is V. nice indeed! Doesn't look much different but the subtle changes are lovely.

Hey, these more powerful headlights, can you get them over here via Nelson Mandela's? If so how much do they cost?

Obviously Nastey Nissan realised that you can't have people driving into lamp posts at night coz their lights are so crap they couldn't see it!!! LOL!

P.S. Excited like a small kid, AndyP may bring his car to Stevenage tomorrow for a quick drooling session(me doing the drooling!). Should keep me going for another couple of weeks without the pills!

Well if you're going to drool then make sure you drool over it - might wash some of the shite off ....

That's an interesting point about the lights though. However, they're probably what the US guys refer to as costing about $1000 on import !!!!

Hi,

I saw a '98 model for sale on one of the import sites...it only had a couple of thousand Kms on the clock, and came fully loaded with sat.nav etc.I think they wanted £20K for it ,however! frown.gif

Be nice to own a virtually new 300ZX though! cool.gif

Pete at SE is also in the latter stages of producing a twin headlight conversion kit. Saw it at their open day, but personally I didn't go a bundle on the look. Maybe I'm a bit of a traditionalist and just like the standard car. However, could be worth it if it brings the lights up to modern standards.

Hi,

The last Japanese spec. cars came with Recaro seats (version S & R), cream dashboard dials, with amber lighting, airbag steering wheels and the option of carbon fibre or black wood console trim.Other options such as sat.nav. and illuminated kick plates were also widely fitted.

Now...if only I could cash that endowment policy in!! wink.gif
