Just a quick survey, got a new job there and will be moving there in the very near future. Would be good to see some friendly faces.

Advice on places to avoid living round there would also be useful!

Regards,

Brent

Cheers guys.

Start the job a week today. Only accepted last week so as yet havent made up my mind what to do. The areas right, cheaper to buy than in Surrey. Not sure whether to rent or B&B in the early stages of the probation period. B&B will save on the council tax and other cost.

Got to look at location to town centre so I dont have to drive the Zed to far and can save on fuel. It currently drinks £80+ a week at the mo going to work. Want to live close enough to cut that in half.

If all works out then all will be welcome round when I buy/rent. Got a cracking huge projector which I use for Computer/TV/DVD so all will be able to come round, down some tinnies and kick back watching Fast and the Furious two on DVD by then.

Thanks again guys, good to know your all out there. Will keep yas posted.

MK is cheaper than surrey?? That surprises me - MK is pretty expensive to live and buy houses compared to most areas...

Renting is big business in MK, hence the prices are quite expensive. I moved to MK about 6-7 years ago and it cost me £320 a month then for a decent one bed maisonete thingy!

There are absolutely thousands of properties to rent so you should be spoiled for choice - just depends what your budget is.

All depends what area you are working in?

Barry

I'm not far from MK, about 30 mins in the Zed (or 20 if the cops aren't about...) but used to live there and have loads of mates I still regularly visit.

The A road between MK and Buckingham is a decent drive for the zed when it's clear.

It'd be good to have an MK meet when your settled, show of the zeds

As for areas, I would avoid those directly by the city centre - either too posh or too rough

But loads of the new builds further out are good and at decent prices. Most will take less the 15mins to get to the centre.

Good luck

Mark

Me too. :D

The benefits of having a company car. ;) My Zed did approximately 8000 miles last year. In the same time, the Peugeot has done 31K. :D :D

Mind you, there are some times when I *could* have driven the Zed...or rather *would* have, had she been operational. :D

;) :D

Ajay,

Out of interest is it a company car or your car you use for business.

The reason I ask is that I exchanged my company car for a monthly car allowance plus 22 pence per mile petrol expenses.

I did this because at the end of the tax year I can claim back 41p per mile from the tax man!!

The tax man calculates that it costs 63 pence per mile for a 3 litre car, my company covers my petrol costs @22 pence per mile and so I can claim the difference back.

Assuming I drive 3000 miles in the Zed then I get £1890 - more that enough to cover petrol and service costs and a contribution to capital depreciation.

It's a company car that I use all the time. :D (At the moment, anyway).

My Zed is turning into a weekend only car, from being my daily driver. I took into account depreciation and engine wear and tear, not to mention rubber, maintainance and servicing and decided that since I pay for petrol alone on the company car, that it would work out much cheaper.

I *could* have taken a cash alternative, but the sheer maintenance costs and fuel costs in running the Zed every day does not make it viable.

It's only a petrol 307 and can therefore only be taxed up to 15%, but I get rid of it in November and the emissions start to count in the 3rd year of this car (according to the stats).

I must say it was a close call for me but I opted for the money as I only do 10K business miles per year - 31K business miles is almost an oil change every month in a Zed!!
