Extra light circuit?

Thought I`d admit a little bout of stupidity

Was looking at the front end of the car last week and saw a wire dangling. Found the other end and connected the circuit. Car ran like pants for a little while but improved over the next day or two. Three days later the lights stopped working. thinking it might have something to do with the wires I had reconnected, I took the indicator and fog light unit out. Whatever these wires were, I don`t know but they had melted into each other and shorted. Separated an insulated them and all appears to be good.

Anyone here know what this circuit is? It affected the sidelight/dipped beam circuit only, main beam was fine. Could they be connections for another (unused) anciliary light somewhere? Mines a jap import and I can`t make enough sense of the wiring diagram to work out what it was that I reconnected.

Any ideas???
