Okay, so I was being a naughty boy and doing mmmm mph above the speed limit on a nice straight A road near me at about 2 in the morning.

Just about to take a round-about (island to you northerners!) onto a dual carrige way and blast it when the dreaded blues flash in the rear view. :( :(

 

I pull over and get out of the car and a couple of stern faces come over, and after a few seconds (that feel like eternity) of shaking head and waving finger and listening to me being nice and apologetic like they break in to a grin and start asking about the car. What is it, what does it do etc.

 

After picking my chin of the floor, I happily get started on my favorite topic.

 

A few minutes of this and they shake the head once more and leave...

 

If I wasn't asked to sign anything and they never issued any papers does this mean I got away with it?

 

I guess I'll know in a couple of weeks.

 

So leason learnt: if your caught, talk nice and be polite.

Yes, you got away with it. If they were going to "do" you there and then, they would have taken down some particulars and given you the written warning.

 

As they didn't, you are very lucky and I suggest the purchase of a lottery ticket for tomorrow would not be a bad move. :D ;)

Whenever I get pulled over, I always make a point of getting out straight away and not waiting for them to ask me to "get out of my vehicle". I think, in some peculiar way this really does help your case in question, followed by generous portions of humble pie!

 

Once they've gone and you've been lucky enough to get away with it, you can call them all the names under the sun!

Be careful though. The same thing happened to me once - I got pulled over for an average of 98.2mph on the M25, (although they followed me at well over 110) and they let me off.

 

I was very pleased with myself until I got pulled over in a speed trap the next night! :rolleyes:

honest fact this..... my brother drives a tvr tuscan, and was stopped early hours m27 doing 100mph+. Got out on hard shoulder and the little sod actually feigned acute pain, to the point of trying to cry (he really does deserve an oscar) clutching his poorly stomach telling the police he really, really needed to 'sit' on the toilet, and was trying to get to the services. As he was approx 1 mile from said services they (and get this) asked him to follow them, he ran in and locked the door of the loo, and waited, when he came out - gone.

 

True story that, and trust me, tells it at the earliest given opportunity whenever the subject of speed is slightly mentioned:p :p

Try that trick in the US and you will have a gun in your face before you've finished opening the door. You sit tight, you keep your hands on the wheel where they can see them and when they ask to see you licence you tell them which pocket you're about to remove it from - and you do it slowly. Been there, done that !

I don't know exactly as I was consentrating on the road, but at one time I looked down and was approaching 100 and still accelerating...like i said I was naughty boy

 

One of the guys said they were lucky to pull me before I got the to the dual carrageway as they don't think they would have caught me once I hit that... Damn right too!!!!

 

I put my luck down to eatin' humble pie and drivin' a kick A55 machine that even the cops love. I love my Zed more every day

But like you say no amount of charm or luck will convince the speed cameras, so I'll take this a my first strike and be sensible, do the business on a track day. Speaking of which anybody suggest the best place to go?

Dont want to worry you but they can simply report you for dagerous driving when they get back, but i think if they are going to do this they have to give it to you verbally first so your safe.

 

F.T will be able to tell you for deffo, but seeing as he's not online at the mo he must be out persicuting innocent motorists this evening. lol;)
