Hi guys,

My car has recently started smoking a bit. At first I assumed it was the turbo seals, but now I'm not so sure.

It doesn't do it first thing in the morning, or when flooring it, only when I'm stationary or just slowing down at lights, etc.

It then lets out a smallish cloud of blue smoke and then the smoke stops. It also seems to only do it once on any given journey - this morning it was after driving for around an hour, the other day it was after 20 minutes or so.

I decatted the car late summer last year and at the MOT in early December they mentioned that it was a bit smokey although it did pass the emissions test.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Turbos.

pretty sure of it.

the oil is seeping through at some point.

If you leave it idleing for around 5 minutes does it smoke? If so almost definite rear seals. Worth replacing the PCVs and all breather hoses first though as a much cheaper option. Most smokey turbos are actually blocked brether systems or damaged PCVs....

I've left it running for 'a while'. Not sure if it was as long as 5 minutes though. I'll try that. Thanks

The PCV valves were replaced about 17k miles ago at the 60k service.

I could try fitting the breather kit that's been sat on my desk ever since it arrived, I suppose! ;)

Erm I wouldn't lol

Replace the breather hoses that go from the front of the intake cam covers to the turbo inlet pipe - these clog up ;) Should be around £10 each do you need the part numbers??? PCVs could fail at any time tbh but they are probably ok.

Breather kit was direct cause of my turbo failure according to company that fixed my car. Apparently it caused massive oil starvation. so i wouldent touch that piece of shit for anything.

Warren,

I was joking, but thanks for the warning.

Andy,

If you've got the part numbers to hand, that would be great.

Thanks

Andy,

Are these pipes part of the pcv kit from Courtesy?

Cheers

I tried letting it idle for over 5 minutes this morning and it didn't obviously smoke at all. Is that good or bad? :)

Vijay,

Yes they are 11823B and 11823C on the courtesy kit.

Dave,

If it didn't smoke under those conditions it would tend to suggest it wasn't the turbos. Try the breather pipes on http://www.courtesyparts.com/z32/oe_pcv.html the parts I am referring to are as I mentioned to vijay on the drawing. If you haven't done the PCVs yet then obviously get the full kit (I know you have dave ;)) Only pipe not worth bothering with is the rear one 11826 as this would be a bitch to replace.
