I've just managed to flog my 200SX, so I'm now in the market for a 300 at last :D :D

I'm going to go for an import and have been recommended to check out the car auctions at Southampton docks as they seem to go for cheap money (~£3K for a 91 model)

Does anyone have any experience of the auctions down there, i.e. are they flogging dogs for cheapo money? Would I maybe be better off going to one of the personal import companies and paying that bit extra for peace of mind?

Does anyone have any numbers of the auction houses down there (there are a number of them apparently).

I'm after a 91+ black, TT, SWB, manual with the targa roof hopefully - how likely am I to find one?

Cheers :)

Chances of getting a SWB TT Man T-bar (in black or grey) at an auction in Southampton are very, very, very unlikely.:( I have access to the USS auctions In Japan (50,000 cars per week!) and only four have gone through in the last 3 months! Very rare, if you see one, buy it.:)

Hmmmm, I guess I'm in for a bit of a wait then :(

On a different note, does anyone have any advice on insurance - I'm going down the classic car route and have tried AON and Lancaster so far - no luck with either of them unfortunately.

28 - I'll be 29 in June.

I'm finding quite a few companies want me to be 30+ which is a bit of an @rse considering I'm only a year off!

Try these http://www.carolenash.com 0800 298 5555

they do classic car policy can't see in the book about age limits you might be lucky.:) :)

Nice one! £540 with £150 XS and a 6K a year limited mileage :D:D

That's a saving of over £1000 on my previous quote on a standard policy!

Do you mind me asking if you've any points or accidents Fluxy, it's just that that's a really good deal and mine's due soon. I'm 32 with 6 points and that's £200 less than I'm paying !

I take it you did tell them it's an import ?

see i can be usefull (sorry thinking out loud) the mooosus says i'm not, all i ever do is sit at the computer all night???

whats her problem!!!!:D :D

Konrad

do you use your zx as a daily comuter or is it for weekend blasts???:D :D

Andy

Konrad..........is the Z your 2nd car? if it is let me know, I have an excellent number for you! £346 think my quote was!!! jap spec, and mods! had to be garaged and had to be 2nd car.

mine is £270, with full breakdown cover, 2nd car, jap spec import parked on drive, alarmed:p :p mods only s/s exhaust

konrad,

No points, but I had an accident last November which wiped out my no claims.

As you're over 30 you should have no worries beating that price if you have a second car. Try AON or Lancaster insurance - sorry, don't have the numbers at the mo'.

Fluxy if u are interested i have a fairlady Z twin turbo manual t-bar in silver , its the 2+2 and has just been imported with 76000 kilometer so think thats about 40 000ish miles . email me if you are still lookign and i will give u the run down. If fact if anyone is interested then email me .

DO NOT BUY A CAR IN SOTON DOCKS

i just cannot emphasise this enough to you. REALLY spent a lot of time there before buying my zed, and kept my eyes open, a car would go into a 'shed' on a monday, and would come out on a friday a different coulour and a year younger.

yes, there is a LOT of zeds there, usually £2700 - £3500 unregistered, dealers buy them and not knowing anything about them, sell them for 5k plus, thats why there are FIVE in my area alone.

spoke to many people in and around soton b4 getting mine, and not one good word could be canvassed about the docks. If anyone on here has bought a good one from the docks, correct me, and if any of the conning, uneducated thieves selling zeds in soton read this - sue me.

YOU GO GIRL

so silverzed i take it you are a little bit bitter towards the soton docks , dont blame u . but i have had a workd of shit from an import specialist garage that had done similar stuff to my zed and resulting in me having owned my car for a month now and only driven it 4 days and clocking 102 kilometers in it . Dont think people realise that if they are honest they will get recomended by people and get more business other than tryign to cut corners and screwing people around and ending up getting slagged off and advising people not to go ..... sorry me blabbling ;) ;) ;) ;)

Well that's put me off that idea! ;)

I had reservations about buying one off the docks anyhow, this just confirms my worst suspicions - thanks silverzed :)

I have found a guy who will do a personal import for me, and reckons I could get a 91+ manual TT for around £3.5K on the road price (more likely to be nearer £4K I suspect) - sounds cheap should I be hearing alarm bells?

If you want an honest ZX then e-mail sales@select-imports.com. We can import to order any Japanese car. You will see an auction sheet prior to paying any money (other than a small deposit) that shows the mileage, condition, interior and exterior, age and colour etc. We have a Black ZX TT T-Bar LWB 2+2 1990 in stock with 39000kms (approx 26000 miles) with FSH for £5495:D

be carefully becoz i was gonan import a skyline 32 and that was 300 000 yen which is about 3500 but then there was all the other fees and in the end it worked out to be closer to 5500 from the garage and they use to bring over about 15-25 cars a month so it wasent like a one off . why dont u buy mine but i think if you are in the region of paying around 4 then mine will be a bit to muhc for u. just remeber u pay for wat u get

bluntbrother, I did e-mail you about the Z you have as I might well be interested in it.

£4K was just the figure they quoted me and I was surprised by it to be honest as I'd budgeted for more like £5.5K.

You get what you pay for is always in the back of my mind.

ok fluxy i got your email . the security setting thingy on hotmail was set to hihgb . just sent u the detail of the Zed . let me no

cheers m8:D
