Why is this? When my headlights are on the clock display etc go v dim, hard to read  . Shouldn't they get brighter?!

Is it a battery related problem? I haven't got any big energy-sapping devices fitted.

Cheers

Mine also does this and I guess its supposed to, as not to be too bright and offputting cos if you've got your lights on then I suppose it would be dark!

The clock dims to prevent 'dazzle'.

The assumption being that if your headlights are on, its probably dark out and the display doesn't need to be so bright. :)

LOL James you sarky git!

Is that more Jap-logic  ? "Sorry officer, I was blinded by my clock" When I look down at the clock, it takes far too long to adjust from the road lights etc, maybe I should pull over to the side to look at the time. Or switch my lights off? :D

And another thing, when the car is in "park" the gear knob obscures the blo0dy clock anyway:rolleyes: :D . Dear me!

Only just got the clock fixed (cheers Andy!:D) and I'm complaining already!

Turn the brightness on the dash. Not sure if they are on the Jap Z, but the UK has a button of a light bulb and an up and down arrow. It on the right below the fog light button. Press the up button and it makes the dash brighter. Press down and it goes dimer ;)

Try Pressing that a few times. The up that is. :D

nope, every car ive ever been in does this ;)

Don't know what you;re worrying about anyway, even if you could see the clock it would be wrong cos the clocks they put in these things are so crap :D

Not when I've fixed them they don't !!!!! ;)

Graham S.........sorry mate, was only joking! The amount of times I've typed a reply only to send it and 2 people have beaten me to it! :D

I reckon they are meant to go dimmed to allow clear vision out of the car, as it affects the dash as well as the clock

you've got to get into a Japanese state of mind -and they think of everything -except putting proper headlights on the damn cars !!;) :D

the clock display etc go v dim, hard to read :

Yes I have the same problem but it's the etc bit thats important as this includes the speedo, tried the up down button, yep I can make it go dimmer.

Is it much of a job to get at these lights (not the clock) or do I just have to eat more carrotts

That is correct operation. If you don't want this to happen then cut the green/brown wire on the loom side plug or green/white wire on the clock side socket.

I would Andy, but I broke the car over a year ago, and started this thread over 3 years ago :D

I know, but people ask the question from time to time, so I thought I may as well provide the answer.

lol, andy do you know how to Not dim the climate control temp bit??

I done the wire cut for the clock ages ago, and was trying to work out how to stop the temp display on climate dimming.
