I'm not starting a Manual Vs Auto or UK Vs Import discussion here! ;)

What are the "true" performance times of Auto TT Zeds?

I have searched this site and seen loads of conflicting information.

Some posts say 7.5 secs to 60???

WTF! That's slower than a quick hot hatch!

Other info says they are 5.5-5.7 to 60 and Nissan say they are faster to 100 than a manual.

Also I have seen loads of different power figures showing the UK Auto is around 260BHP compaired to the US/Jap 280HP...

Is this true or just a UK Vs Import thing?

I don't mind an auto cause I like them and do lots of traffic driving, but I don't want an auto if it's going to be 2 seconds slower to 60 and have problems keeping up with a manual above that:(

Not that I'm likely to find out on the road, but it's the thought of being slower that hurts! :p

I'm hoping I'm not going to have to try and find a Jap/US manual :(

That makes me feel happeir about buying an auto :D

Get a manual you pussy!!!:D :D :D

F.T.

Gavo,

you telling me those two turbos are only good for another .5 sec to 60!?!

Hmmmm....

FT...

heh heh heh

You're only so macho cos of the work out your left leg gets when driving your manual :p

Nah, I'd like a manual, but given the choice between a nice auto and a less nice manual I know what I'd choose and I know what I'm more likely to find.

That's what I love about the British police force....

...their ability to weigh up both sides of the argument.

No offence Tony (offence, get it! :D), I know you coppers have it hard, surrounded by all those women in uniform! :D

Sh*t!

The fuzz are helping me to choose my next car!!!!

Better be on my best behaviour on Tuesday...

:p

Hi Eric, all zeds here in Singapore are Jap specs.. hope these comparisons might help in your decision..

I had tried an auto n/a, auto tt, manual tt before actually buying... this was last Sept. I finally put my downpayment for the manual tt in Nov after endless sleepless nites dreaming bout the manuall tt...

If u r bout my dad's age,(he's 56) n wanna have heads turned while stoppin at traffic, I'll recommend the auto na..:D

The auto tt is not bad.. but I had realised the limitations of modifications and upgrades on an auto.. n never liked to rest my left leg.. or never had a need to hold my galfren's hand while driving..:D

jokes aside.. my manual '92 tt.. a real machine! it's not difficuilt to reach an estimated 480hp with this machine and a below 5sec 0-60..(0-100km/h) I will not prove my point too much until i get mine dyno chart.. Cheers..:)

56!!

Easy!...I'm 30 :p

ROFL

Why do auto NAs turn heads when you're 56?

Eric, I own an Auto TT and one thing you notice when accelerating is that gearchanges are always smooth and (correct me if I'm wrong) perfectly timed.

Manuals *may* be slightly quicker 0-60 but only if your gearchanges are spot on with regards to shifting quick and judging revs. Even pro's "miss gears".

Pete

Thank you Pete,

Does the autobox have a sport mode where it holds the gears till the redline if need be?

On my old V6 Scorpio it used to change quite early unless you were in kickdown and it would redline until the whole car was shaking! :p

Never broke though...Thank God!

Does that increase BHP suddenly?

LOL :p

...and POWER automatically kicks in instantly when you floor it.

Also has a HOLD button which stops the gear changing, more useful for taking icy roads in a high gear.

Plus OVERDRIVE, when "off" the revs rise by a couple of thousand for a quicker getaway :D:D.

Pete

Ha ha-that would be good! lol.

It just does the same as you say you're Scorpio did. Don't really like it personally, other than in 1st gear, once the power has dropped off I don't really see the point in taking the revs right round.

Jap spec auto's have POWER mode to make it rev higher before shifting, and it does make a BIG difference:D

I used to have a V6 Granny Scorpio too. One lady owner, full history, garaged, never crashed. Bought with 48,000 on the clock. Yes the engine was a bit lazy, but it would still throw a strop and wriggle it's arse all over the place if provoked! Good fun, and very comfy. I had to get rid of it though, one because I really wanted a Z and two because I got fed up being the local taxi service for my mates:rolleyes:

With reference to the "HOLD" button, I was on the understanding that it simply reduces the power to the rear wheels, helpful in the wet or snow/ice. As it goes - does anyone know what it does do to cut the power?

From a technical point of view I have no idea, but from a practical point of view.... it pulls away in second gear and will not change down into first. It also changes up at about 2000rpm.

Also from a practical point of view, I'm bloody glad I've got it as I'm sure I would have had a disaster in the recent snow if I didn't. Hate to think how the UK spec auto drivers got on without it!

the Slushbox reduces plenty of power to the wheels through all that transmission loss to start with, how much more reductions do you need :D:D:D

Ouch!

But we all know that Warren's gearbox is bullit proof, just a shame his engines aren't! ;)

I love my auto and thanks to Maciej I can choose my own gears when I want to as well :P

Tim

If you have two cars & your Zed is auto & the other is a manual then beware!!

I nearly caused my next door neighbour to crash into me one day cos I stamped on the brake pedal thinking it was the clutch, lol. The ABS kicked in too and the roads were dry! :D :D :D

One thing I noticed when I swapped the auto to manual is how much more the auto box weighed!

Even with two of us, we couldn't lift the bugger down into the pit from the engine. I had to let it free fall:rolleyes:

The manual box on the other hand I managed to lift to the engine & install on my own!

Shit-you got one of those cars with the clutch in the middle ??? lol:p

lol here is a valid question. What is with the massive AUTO brake peddle? i mean on a manual its a normal size, on an Auto its as big as sasquatch foot lol? why not just have a normal pedal and a foot rest on the left of that? (serious)
