Hi guys,

i have searched the archives and not found anything so i am asking for a bit of help

1. At speeds above 10-20mph the rear of the car is really noisey like the sound from something without any oil in it. I had check and top up all of the (things?) where oil can go under the rear of the car but its the same. What can it be. In addition to this, the car has started to make a knocking noise when i boot it hard in first gear and this noise seems to be coming fromt he back of the car.

2. The area around the Gear stick is really noisey aswell when the car is in neutral with the clutch up (not pressed down). But when i press the clutch down the noise is not as loud.

3. The engine its self is getting noisey also, what can be done to make it more quiet? could i change the gaskets, hoses,etc... or would this not do anything?

4. I just realised that my front right tyre is absolutely bald, it was not like this 2 weeks ago when i last checked. WTF could this be? It has also started to bounce when i brake, not a lot but a bit. When i say bounce i mean the front of the car not the tyre. Does it do this because of the bald tyre?

Questions 1, 2 and 4 are my main concerns ATM, not too bothered about the engine noise just yet.

Hope some of you can help

BTW: here are some pics of the Rally which i entered last month and came second place in :-)

HI is this knocking sound ,more of a bumping sound, like something hitting the underneath of the car ,just behind you,?????

Ya Man,

It could be i suppose, why, what you thinking?

Sounds silly, but have you checked all your exhaust joints and mountings? Also check the engine mounts.

If the exhaust can move or blows under load it could foul the body or rear sub assembly- would be loud or knocking.

Many Zs I have seen seen to suffer from split rubber engine mountings- this allows the engine to move under load as the Torque twists the engine, or even move backwards & forwards- could knock.

Both worth checking before you move on to bushes & CV joints!

Point No.2 sounds like classic symptom of a worn Clutch Release bearing. Has to be replaced I'm afraid- and probably you will find the Clutch Plate wants renewing at the same time.

Bouncing bald tyres sound like a duff shock absorber- have to change both front- not just the one- for new.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like your car has a hard life in Bahrain!

Regards

Dave

Thanks for your thoughts. I will have the exhaust checked first as this seems likes the easiest and cheapest starting point.

Engine mountings are due to be replaced when i get some spare cash.

Are the Clutch Release bearing and the plate an expensive item to replace or an everyday cost which you must pay if ya own a Z?

Whats the crack with the suspension then? do i have to use OEM nissan because of the "Sports n Touring" switch or would this just be by-passed if i changed the shock absorbers?

As for the hard life in Bahrain, the weather is lovely, rising upto 48 degrees (cellcius or fahrenheit? no idea, but the smaller one). the road are like newly laid tarmac most of the places but others are pretty bad. Oh, its completely rust free aswell, theres no rain really. :-)

Cheers
