ARSE!- Just bought my beautiful imported ZX Twin turbo and it all looked sweet.....that is until yesterday.

Steam started coming up from the engine (passenger side, somewhere below the battery) and I found a puddle of rainbow-ish-tinted water on the ground. I'm hoping that it's just a hose/conector that's sprung a leak and the steam was from where it was dripping onto a hot engine part....but then again..I don't really know much about the motor yet.

Any clues anybody? Or does anybody know at least how I can check?

HELP!!!!!!

Could be power steering fluid abandoning ship onto your exhaust(manifold?)

I had somthing similarly steamy happen yesterday sitting in the M1carpark:mad:

Sorry.........just read that as -

"scary leak coming from my arse"

.........you can get tablets for that........to firm things up a bit.

Hope its a perished hose or a clip come off altogether.

There was a lengthy post the other day on this.....I reckon a search on "steam" will bring it up.....good luck.

Sounds like one of the coolant hoses under the plenum or to the turbo, to me. Thats the only place where coolant could be coming from in that area.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I just checked it again and all starts absolutely fine but their is no temperature reading on the display, I let the engine tick over for about 5 minutes but the needle stayed still - does that point the problem to anything else or just confirm that it's a coolant hose leak?

Cheerz 4 the help, any feedback is greatly appreciated at this time!!!!

I have just checked the Coolant level and it's right down- does anyone know if I'm gonna be able to drive the motor to a garage or is it likely to bugger the whole engine up?

Cheerz for all correspondance guys+gals.

PS - thanks for replying James300- just remembered that I can't access my work email from where I am (Damn GPRS!) So if you haven't replied on the thread I can always get it tomorrow.

Fill it with water again! How long is the journey to the garage? Take some spare water with you and keep a close eye on the temp and coolant level ;)

CheerZ,

Andy

when u r getting it fixed u could maybve ask about getting head gaskets !!!!! five minutes with no water ... the temp inside the engine ........

lets hope that u have not caused a more major problem ....

but dont drive it to the garage ... even if it is at the bottom of your drive

scottieeee

Gonna bail out here........I would say drive it but keep a VERY close eye on temp gauge! and as Andy says have more water with you.

Head gasket??? don't scare the poor guy!

(it is/was def coolant?) have you got that far?

be warned, the stock gauge is absolute crap. It will go from showing normal driving range to sky high in the matter of about 10-15 seconds. I broke down the other week and it overheated in that amount of time according to the stock gauge.

Just be very careful................

I know been saying this for 3 years now;)

Yes I noticed the car playing up before the gauge went skyward.

If you are with the AA they will tow you to a local garage, although expect a wait, when I say tow I had to have a full lift because the car was too low to tow(rhymes nicely doesn't it!)

Mine turned out to be the water pump.

Cheers,

F.T.
