Hi, I'm going to give a basic service this week Oil,plugs, filters .

Can anybody recomemned non standard (Nissan)Air filter and plugs as i've been told you can increse the bhp by SOME with just changing them ?.

I am not even going to consider a messing around with the ecu/chip as they are quick enough in my view but seeing i'm going to change the filter and plugs why not go for somthing a little better :-).

Any advice THANKS , Darren

I have K&N panel filters as a replacement for the standard filters. Easy to fit and whilst I can't vouch for any power increase I did get an mpg improvement, of course that could have been because my previous filter was dirty.

Well there are a range of air filters.

Basically

HKS, BLITZ, JWT, and the list goes on, i have an HKS (170.00 POUNDS) I think, contact johhny then plugs, THE Great debate.

i recently put in pfr6-11c and they are the dogs ganoonies.

ECU again there are about 20 different manufacturers. I have MINES most of the guys here will probably tell you Jim Wolf Technology (which sucks lol)

Then you need an exhaust as well, the list goes on.

DO NOT GET HALFORDS STANDARD AIR FILTERS. THEY DONT FIT!!!!

Hi darren

I'm having the K&n panel filters fitted to mine when its out of the body shop,my mechanic tell me there will be a gain somewhere between 10-20 bhp, but i wont know how they go for a couple of weeks

Darren, there's a section on the air filter in the Upgrade Options (under Tech Sec on the left menu).

I'm not sure you'll see a massive difference from this upgrade by itself, but it will certainly be an improvement over the standard filter.

You really need to look at ecu/intake/exhaust to appreciate any real difference.

Agree - I think 10-20bhp might be optimistic for panel filters alone. The standard airbox is fairly restrictive, you'll probably get that much if you replace it entirely with one of the many options from Jim Wolf, Stillen, SE, etc etc.

Cheers Guys , I'll let you know how i get on

Dazzer,

Forget the Mines rubbish that WaZZer is rattling on about! Engine destroyer no. 1! Fine on imports unless you want to spend loads of wonga getting it setup by the vast majority of tuners in the country. One I think!

Secondly, air filter, only one worth getting, Blitz SUS mother of all air filters.

Exhaust, pah, some will try to steer you towards the HKS Super Drager...LMAO! But why would you only want half an exhaust on a car that should have symettry!!!

Keep it real and get yourself a Blitz Realize cat back, 4.5" daddy tails and is the dogs plums!

ECU, JWT is the only way to go I'm afraid. Only ECU designed to provide serious power gains, removes 150/155 mph restrictor and gives reliability aswell. RESPECT JIM BOB!

Plugs, Iridium from HKS, I think Hiteq do them?!?!?!? Defo!

Hope this re-writes the wrongs already stated...by the way...I don't have any of these yet, but what's that go to do with anything...LMAO!

But will have soon!!!

ECU - many options and many different techniques / aims of them. Broadly summarising the MANY discussions so far and the three most commonly discussed :

JWT - very safe and reasonable power gains

SE - reasonably safe and better power gains IF you have either the same spec as one of cars on which rolling road testing has been done OR you have a custom map done

MINES - more extreme and at least initially designed for high octane fuel.

Personal view only - if you want easy and reliable, go for JWT. If you want the best from your own setup then go SE with a custom mapping. Costs a bit more of course and needs re-doing if you upgrade further.

On the air filter debate, I'm probably one of the few who have had standard filters, JWT filter (same as K&N) AND SE filters. I didn't notice any difference between JWT & SE and only a VERY slight difference upgrading from standard. All three were done on 14 psi boost and bhp in the 380 - 430 range.

Dave

stock nissan filters are a pound cheaper than halfords owne anyway so if i get a new stock filter i would buy the real ony
